As much as I'm diggin' the songs, it's also cool to see the bands and the clubs

could you guys post the bands and titles above each video please?
thanks

Jeff(bigtikidude)

When you upload videos, it automatically puts them in order at the end of the post and doesn't allow the option to add text between them. Besides, once you click the vid to play it, the vid title appears.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Insanely fantastic thread you've started, Norm! Great slew of additions by Warren, Ivan, Brian and company. Diggin' this immensely.

Totally sticky worthy, Brian.

True, the option to put the titles above the video doesn't work when using the attach feature, but you can always make a small list in the body of the post with the band names and song titles, since not all videos do actually show that info. I edited my earlier post to do just that, nothing special, but not a bad idea in my opinion.

Or you could, you know, put one video per post...

Another group from very early on was The Surfmen. This band featured Sax player Armon Frank who would leave to join Dick Dale in late ’61 and Ed Chiaverini and Tim Fitzpatrick who would became the more widely popular Lively Ones with the addition of Jim Masoner in ‘62. They issued four 7inch singles that included these two songs El Toro and Malibu Run. Enjoy!

Cool, by chance I met Armon Frank last summer. He's a real nice guy.
He was selling a fender cab with a JBL D130F on CL & I answered the ad. He said he later took up the bass guitar on advice that the sax was losing popularity.

He said he wrote Paradise Cove but was not credited. I believe he also said he played on Dick Dale's Miserlou.

It's eerie how similar Malibu Run and Paradise Cove are.

Armon Frank performed at the 2010 convention in the legends jam. That was something!

Too logical and simple - it'll never work. Laughing

Here's Bob Vaught and The Renegades' "Surfin' Tragedy." Totally unlike the rest of their stuff (which was trashy sax-led R&B), but a pretty cool diversion:

This one just came up on the Ipod.... I really dig The Centurians version of "Intoxica" originally done by another pioneering group, The Revels. The Centurians from Costa Mesa, CA who started in '59/'60 are best known for their awesome tune, Bullwinkle Pt. II which is of course in Pulp Fiction. But check out Intoxica. Good stuff!

Another big fave that are respected by fans but unknown to the rest of the world is The Original Surfaris. They had The Surfaris name first but lost the lawsuit to the Glendora Surfaris after Wipe-Out became a big hit. They started out in '60/'61 and cut some really mean sounding surf. Here's Surfari, Bombora, and Exotic. The first clip has some great footage too and the last tune "Exotic" makes me wanna break stuff, haha. Dig him yelling OUTSIDE!!!!

Just ran across this one recently.
Must have been before David Ruffin joined the band. Laughing
