Help me make up my mind!
Do I really need a J Mascis Jazzmaster?
I already have a Squier strat, a quite cheap one but it plays well.
It is sounding very good with my FRV-1, I have adjustet it to suit
me and there are actually nothing to complain about. Also have the looks
I prefer, white and pearl pickguard. I should be happy...but it is not a
Jazzmaster..

Please list pros and cons about keep or get the new one!

I agree. Your current Strat is good and you like it. Get the Jazzmaster.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

If you possibly can, I'd suggest you take your Strat along to the local shop and try the Jazzmaster out, seeing how it feels to play and how it sounds. Play your Strat through the same amp and see if the sounds of the JM are significantly "better"/different or are something you want/need in addition to your Strat sounds.

I bought a J. Mascis Jazzmaster. Now that I'm used to it, I'd say it's currently my favorite guitar. It's great for both Rock'n'Roll and surf. It's very versatile. I also have a Mexican Strat. For surf, I keep going back and forth.

But I can´t really decide if I really need a JM so I ask more specific. In your opinion: is it unnecessary to buy the J Mascis Jazzmaster if I already have a quite good strat to play surf? Or will I regret it for the rest of my life not taking the opportunity to get one of these when they are so well recomended and affordable? Go or no go?

NO...go with what you have and make it work. Too many
guitars can be a distraction when developing your style
imo.

Even if you're thinking backup, I'd go with a guitar
similar to my main ax.

I subscribe to the more guitars is better philosophy. I also have a tight budget, so there's that. However, over the years, I've accumulated a group of instruments that makes me very happy. Among them are 3 Strats. They're all a bit different and I find that I do gravitate to one the vast majority of the time, but they all have their sweet spot tonally and the variety works for me. I also had a '61 Jazzmaster when I was a young guy, never played it, sold it cheap. When my musical interests returned to surf music, I found that I needed a Jazzmaster or a Jag. I believe you should acquire the best instrument you can afford, luckily for me, I was able to build a really nice candy red Jazzy from a Warmoth body and neck combination and use the parts that suit me. This doesn't work out for everyone, so if you can build one have at it. If not, my recommendation is that if you find your self in this quandary of indecisiveness, I think you're sorta saying I want them both. Do it if you can. But do yourself a favor and play the guitar you desire as much and as often as possible. If you can't make yourself put it down, it wants you, you should buy it if you can. If later you decide it was just a fling, you can sell it, Fender's hold their value well. Sorry to be so wordy, I don't really disagree with Las Barracudas, too many of anything can be a distraction, but I hear a longing to try this in your text. Hope this rambling is helpful in some way.

Grab the JM JM.... reviews on it are phenominal and the price is right. I actually have one on order... backordered from Musician's Friend. Should get it next week or the week after (I hope).

Look into deals... MF and other online music vendors often have discounts and deals. Go for it!!!

Those of you that actually owns a Squier Mascis JM, would you say it sounds very different from a strat?
Also, I recently bought a Boss FDR-1 and it sounds so good toghether with my Squier SE strat! Have any of you Squier Mascis JM-owner played with that pedal?

My JMJM sounds different from a Strat....because I want it to sound different from a Strat.

The JMJM has 13~56 flatwounds, the Strats have 10~46 roundwounds.
That's the difference right there.
