I feel extremely fortunate to be a part of such a unique and wonderful musical endeavor. I really can't describe what it feels like to stand in the middle of the "Orchestra" when all 7 guys are "on." It can be a very profound experience.
We get some flak from the Exotica traditionalists because we use modern electric instruments, but it's one of the things that helps give us our "sound." Not to mention, the whole thing began as a new, fresh, modern-day take on a blending of classic musical genres--like putting Exotica, Surf, Lounge, Jazz, Hawaiian, Cheesy Organ & Bongo Pop, and Film Music into a blender.
Unfortunately, there are no plans to make it to the East Coast right now, as much as we would love it! With 7 members, sometimes even playing locally can be a logistical challenge!!!
Our next shows will be Feb. 25 (TBA), April 21 @ Mojave Oasis II, and August 16 @ Tiki Oasis.
We were fortunate enough to have a track on The Continental comp #17 and will again feature a surf tune on the forthcoming Continental comp #19!

I'm still goose-bumped. I listened to the three albums again today and they only got better. Even if I don't get to see you preform just knowing that you're out there is great.

I'm a fairly serious exotica listener, I've got my personalized, autographed copy of Martin Denny's "Quiet Village", up on the wall. Your twist on the music is brilliant, not to mention all the paraphernalia (the hotel room key is f-in amazing). Any true fan of the genre, should be thrilled that someone is keeping this stuff new and alive.

Yeah, a friend from the old exotica mailing list went and spent a couple of day's with Mr. Denny back in the early 2000s. Denny played the piano for him. It sounded like an amazing time. I had him take my "Quiet Village" album cover so Martin Denny would sign it to me.

Another acquaintance used to go and hang out with Juan Esquivel, but I never got his signature, sadly.

Hey Steve, thanks so much for the kind words! It's a truly humbling and rewarding opportunity to be a part of something like Tikiyaki. I'm so thankful to have been involved since the very beginning of the live band and can't express how much I've learned and grown over the years from playing in a septet.

The loss of the Verbtones is very sad indeed, but I'm beyond excited to hear what The Apollo 4 is going to bring to the table!

You guys should come down for the convention this year and stay through Oasis!!!

Picked up Aloha Baby after the convention some time last year based on Jeff/BTD's recommendation as being one of the more likely tiki / lounge-ish bands the Surf crowd would enjoy. Count me as a fan - you're one fan more towards your goal to merge the two scenes a bit more, Jeff!

Great to see the Return of Tikiyaki this past
Sun. Although it was only a 4 piece version of the band.
I found the songs played to be just as enjoyable
And recognizable as the cd versions.
They also played a spy medley that was very cool.
