I traveled to Southern California the weekend of January 20 thru 22, 2012 because I was guaranteed 3 successive days of great live music.
Day 1 (Jan 20) and Day 2 (Jan 21) were spent at DEKE DICKERSON's "GUITAR GEEK FESTIVAL 2012" in Anaheim. A separate thread has been created in SG101 which lists all 36 videos I shot there: http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/17325/?page=1#p227407
Day 3 (Jan 22) was for the SO-CAL WINTER SURF FEST 2012 that was held at a venue called 'The Starting Gate' in Los Alamitos.
The line-up put together by Jeff 'Big Tiki Dude' Hanson was perfect for a surf-instro-beat junkie like me:
11am to noon- TikiTena and Sean DJ, (and between sets)
noon to 1:15- High Tide (with special guests)
1:45 to 2:45- The Breakaways
3:00 to 3:50- The Tequila Worms
4:00 to 4:50- Secret Samurai
5:10 to 6:00- The Eliminators
6:15 to 7:00- Slacktone
I will post in this thread each time a band's complete set of my videos has loaded in to my YouTube page, http://www.youtube.com/unsteadyfreddie
Here's a little tease -- it's by a band called HIGH TIDE (more info about the band's line-up, and the song, can be found on the video itself):

just added up the total number of videos I shot at this SURF FEST.
total = 35 (almost identical to the 36 I shot at DEKE's GUITAR GEEK FESTIVAL, oddly enough!)
that makes a GRAND TOTAL of 71 videos I came back home with from my 3-day weekend in S. CALIF. !!!
God Bless The Magic Camera

OK, we kick off my uploaded videos from to the SO CAL WINTER SURF FEST 2012 with a band called "HIGH TIDE" -- a mix of top-shelf musicians from a variety of the surf and tiki genres: Juan Alvada (from The Body Snathers) on drums, Billy Scanlan (from The Detonators, Billy Blast-Off & The Surf Rockets) on guitar, Jon Paul Balak (from the Insect Surfers, Tikiyaki Orchestra) on bass, and Matt Quliter (from The Reventlos) on guitar. On some of the videos, there was a 'Guest Guitarist' joining in.
In order,
HIGH TIDE -- "SURF BEAT"

sorry about the low lighting @ The Starting Gate bar venue. I opened the lens as much as I could. But at least the sound came out pretty good.
next up: THE BREAKAWAYS....

I think the lighting is fine.
I don't like it when it looks like daytime on a indoor stage.
Plus, it sucks when its like yer looking at the sun, when you look out at the crowd.
thanks again Freddie,

Tequila Worms were intense live... the drummer especially knocks the s*** out of those drums! Intense... I certainly see the punk rock/hardcore connection with these guys and I dig it.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to play with the Tequila Worms last summer. The young guys are intense and put on a great live performance. I like their CD but it doesn't compare to their live performance. Definetly worth catching 'em live.

Can anyone tell me if Dave Wronski is playing a new 50'th Anniversary Jaguar or an older Thin Skin in these Slacktone vids? I was sort of expecting to see him play a Johnny Marr. Just idle curiosity at work.

No... he was playing a custom made Jaguar... Gold Sparkle... and he had his coca cola bottle sparkle Jag on stage too but didn't use it. Saw it with my own eyes!

We should make these into a YouTube playlist and have an IRC viewing party.
