I was just listening to Pintor by the Pharos and was curious about the group. I looked on allmusic.com, and did a Google search but didn't find anything. Anyone know anything about this group? Thanks.

Wow Tony! What can you tell us about the Pharos and the amazing song Pintor? The Pharos are one of those bands that no one knows anything about! —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I think my old "OK" signified, "Famously, nobody knows anything about the Pharos at all," so let me second Brian's "Wow" and PD's original request. People absolutely love the only bits of the Pharos music they know of and always wish they knew more about the band. Anything about the band. I think this is the first time I've seen much more than the name of the band. |

The Pharos was a band from La Puente, Ca. I joined the band in summer of 1964 and for personal reasons left the Pharos to join another band. As for the song Pintor is an old beautiful mexican song (Angelitos Negros) Tony Ibarra |

Check out the comments on YouTube: "everyone has been wondering who the members of the pharos were. Well they are Cesar Aliviado, (lead guitar). Emilio Martinez, (rythum guitar). Greg Tangonan, (drums). Bill Bontempo, (piano). Phil Pastrano, (sax). jim irvin, (bass). We lived in La puente, calif, and Hacienda Hts. calif. I have the newspaper photo of when we signed with del-fi recording studios in may of '63. emilio martinez" —Radio Free Bakersfield--60 Minutes of TWANG, CRUNCH, OOMPH. |

Why is there only one known Pharos song? Does their single not have a B-side? — |

According to the bible, it's Pintor / Rhythm Surfer on Del-Fi 4208 (5/63). I don't think I have heard Rhythm Surfer. I'm not sure if it ever appeared on any re-releases or compilations like Pintor. (I'll have to check my iTunes -- meanwhile, someone please correct me if I'm wrong). —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea Last edited: Jan 26, 2012 21:29:43 |

That is some great Miki Dora footage. Notice towards the end how he almost chops Johnny Fain's head off twice before being payed back by Fain throwing big stones at him! — |

Great stuff! An amazing tune with such a great melancholy melody. Pintor means Painter in Spanish. A very appropriate tune to use with Dora footage. —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |
