Rob,

I ordered mine on Dec 31st.
It arrived in California yesterday, January 18th.

Seems about right for snail mail from Croatia...I bet
yours will arrive soon!

I've seen that trailer, but it's fun to watch it again.

Thanks - that means it should show up probably sometime next week.

I just got my copy today (thanks Dalibor) and am working my way through it. Started with CD 1, now I'm onto the DVD. Going to give it a few more listens and viewings before writing a review for the magazine, but man, I'm amazed at the quality of the packaging and cinematography. Simply put, in regard to the DVD, you'll never see a better looking surf/instro rock DVD or movie ever. Of course, they bring their excellent songs and musicianship into it as well. I love the way they include images of Zagreb and the band outside the concert venue. I would have perhaps liked to see more of that - I think it really adds to the mood of the film. But it's an outstanding package, if you're on this board you should definitely pick up a copy!

The packaging is gorgeous, I think it is the best looking surf release ever made. I haven't watched or listened yet, I'm waiting for the HD download before I delve into it. I'm very excited!

Jake, your self restraint is admirable.
Waiting for my copy...

Visually, the sultry and ominous black $ white film noir look, interrupted only by one red shirt and a little red lipstick, is stunning. It looks as if Humphrey Bogart or Gene Tierney could be sitting in the audience.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

The director loves to show close ups of Lada. Who can blame him?

funny, I found the 60 hz Fender hum to be quite endearing also!

The last several concert films I bought on DVD were just kind of yucky looking compared to their HD counterparts, so I know I will enjoy it more. It is hard though!

Jake--

I've seen very few concert DVD's that look as good as this one. I think if you watch five minutes of your DVD copy, not only will you not be disappointed in the quality, but you'll find it hard to stop watching it until the end. It's really a top quality release, not just for surf music, but for music period. I don't know how they were able to afford it, to be honest.

Mine is at home! Great footage, just the dark & the sound !
A question on this ... which amp is Dinko using? .. besides a Twin Reverb I think ...

When you have to shoot ... shoot! Don't talk.

Wow! This video is GLORIOUS!

The Bambis at their best. Amazing playing, the best renditions of their songs ever. I think they played most of their catalogue, it must have been a lifetime experience being it the crowd.

The sound is so good, so punchy, what a recording! So clear and crunchy, such richness, nothing gets lost in the mix. Like the band is sitting on your eyeball, every nuance of Dinko's amp comes through, gave me the shivers multiple times. He does so much, what a player. Dalibor is oh so cool, driving the band with his deep sounding Jazzy.

Bonus - Dinko with a Jack bottle, doing the Danny Gatton, Euro style!

The rhythm sect, the horns, keys, whatnot - all impeccable, playing with all their heart. Good thing they have Lada in the center spreading some smiles, softening it all, otherwise they'd look like a bunch of scary mob guys Cool ...
I'm such a fan. Never been so excited about a band in 20 years I think.

The DVD covers it all - the music, the atmosphere, they got style, man!
Editing and production are top-notch (I'm running out of superlatives here...), minimalistic and classic.
Even the vocal ("The Strange") numbers (I usually don't really like vocals anymore) are chilling, beautiful, very appropriate and really push the show even further.

I had such a good time watching this, this is Rock'n'Roll at it's best. We're lucky to know such a great band exists, we're lucky to value Surf music and all it's branches.

What a band. Everything they do is amazing, and this package is a must have.

Everyone should try to track down Bambi Molesters Back Stage Pass. It is amazing as well.

Dalibor, maybe you guys can sell a digital download of that DVD?

Emilio, I was just wondering about their gear myself recently and managed to find a couple of older discussions/interviews that provided some insight.
Check THIS out for a discussion between our fearless leader Brian and Ric Flinn from the old Yahoo Group in 2004, and THIS for an online interview by Chris Pearce.

Fiberglass Jungle - Surf Radio

That's amazing. All that depth, expression and tone from onboard reverb and talent.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

The 2 CDs that came with the DVD are damn fine too IMO. I listen to them as much (if not more) than watch the DVD. Top job.

There was a somewhat more recent discussion here where Dalibor touched on gear. He mentions Dinko playing a home made Magnatone. The thread is here...I got the quote from page 5:

http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/9250/?page=1

Dalibor wrote:

Ahh, gear talk, finally:)
Dinko had MIJ Jazzmaster as a spare that he just bought
from The Kilaueas. I had 64 Jazzmaster Olympic White as
a back up but the guy who borrowed it to me said my 66
sunburst sounded much better. I don't know. I like
binding on mine and it was a little bit heavier than
64. They sounded different. Dinko was playing DIY
Magnatone amp (he made it) and I played 2 Super Reverbs
(I use Roger Mayer AB box). Lada has VERY expensive
Orange amp which is heavy as 2 twin reverbs but it
sounds great (it is an endorsment from Orange).

Got my copy this week and it is fabulous!!!

Love the look and feel of the video. The band is in top form throughout.
Just an outstanding package.

I wondered what amp that was that Dinko was playing through - it does look like some sort of custom thing. That's cool that he built it.

Mark

There are no wrong notes, just some questionable choices.

That thread relates to a performance after they released their last album "As The Dark Wave Swells" two years ago. I don't know if that's the amp Dinko used on "A Night In Zagreb"---just to be clear. I'm sure if Dalibor sees this, he would be happy to tell us about the gear.
