Music Man 115RP Tube Amp

What's the scoop on these amps, I don't know anything about them?

They are a hybrid-tube power amp, solid state pre amp. The original series of amps-Sixty-Five and One-Thirty had a 12AX-7 phase inverter. They are generally considered the best tone-wise and have a Reverb similar to Black face Fenders and a Vibrato (Tremolo) you either love or hate. The RD-50 had a pre-amp designed by Leo Fender and has a lot of fans. The other RD's (65 and 100) don't sound as good and aren't highly valued. The RP is and RD with a Phaser. Probably my least favorite Music Man. That said, they are ALL hand wired and American made. I've probably owned a couple hundred MM's. I like them-especially the original series which have a lot of clean headroom for Surf or Country. Listen to Albert Lee if you want to hear MusicMan at its best.

My local guitar store recently traded in a near-mint Music Man 130 and the owner simply took it home. He wouldn't even discuss selling it.

here's a couple cool videos I stole off the youtube. They sound cool enough to me. What's the going rate? And if it means anything, my amp tech said these are the best sounding musicman amps.

In todays market, $450 for an RP sounds a little high-especially in rough condition. $350 sounds more like it to me. RD-50's, Sixty-fives, and One Thirtys bring a bit more-$500-$700 depending on condition and speaker. As for the RP being the best sounding-to each his own. I know a lot of Music Man fans, and most would not agree with your tech. Prices would seem to confirm that.

I am just passing on word of mouth, but that sounds a bit high. Maybe it could get that much money on ebay though. You could always throw a lower offer if you tried it and liked it.

At this point most MusicMan amps are beat up a little, especially the grill cloth. Woked in several early to mid eighties bands where the guitar players used them, they sounded good. Are they worth the money? Thats up to you, if I saw sa good deal on one I'd get it. Not mentioned was the HD series that were all tube.

One thing to think about would be tube replacement and maintanence too. I've heard they run at a really high plate voltage and some new tubes won't cut the mustard. Or at least that's what I've been told.
