Downloaded Brave New Surf and Venturesmania-Bound and Sidejacked Again, this week. Both fantastic and feature some excellent, hard-hitting guitar sounds.

I got so many giftcards and now have a massive pile of LPs. Among them:
The Lively Ones' Surf Rider and The Belairs' Origins of Surf Music. It's going to take me forever to get caught up with everything but I was excited to find these two!

Duane Eddy's Twang Thang Anthology. And my wife tells me she has at least one original Duane Eddy LP in a box somewhere in the basement. A Beach Boys record too. She got them from her mom and never looked through the boxes.

The Shockwave! - "Death Race"
This is one of those CDs that just doesn't want to get
ejected from the car stereo, I've been listening to it
over and over for a few weeks now. The Shockwave! are
from Helsinki, Finland, but have nothing to do with
rautalanka, they are huge fans of trad surf and mine
the Gary Usher / Richie Podolar vein. Everything is
nice and moist, Mosrite guitars driving the sound. The
songwriting is inventive, finding new riffs and
melodies inside the trad framework. Track 13, "The
Adventurer" is mesmerizing. My other favorite track is
the bonus one, "Mandchurian Space Reggae" which has a
dub style mix. The CD is about half originals, half
covers- with some interesting rearrangements like their
take on Syd Barret era Pink Floyd called "Lucifer Sam's
Surf". Another fave that seems to be popping up a lot
recently is "Force of Gravity." All in all, pretty
satisfying; I hope Sean picks it up for the Double
Crown Catalog, I think it's pretty damn good!
Plus 1 on the Shockwave. This album is incredible!

Just received the Brave New Surf CD and listened to it on the long, cold, dark, rainy commute to work- very uplifting, and it also reminds me of why I like comps so much!

Repeats on everything people are saying about Brave New Surf and A Night in Zagreb. They get a lot more play than anything else I have unless I stick to linear play rotations.
Newest stuff? Thanks to that link to Sundazed, and for almost nothing, I just got these.
Richie Allen (aka RichiePolodor), Surfer's Slide & The Rising Surf
The Trashmen, Teen Trot: Live At Ellsworth, WI, August 22, 1965
Link Wray, Law of the Jungle: Swan Demos '64 & Rumble
The Knights, Hot Rod High
Davie Allan & the Arrows, Blues Theme
Jerry Cole, Surf Age
Also got the Birth of Surf Volume 2 & Toes on the Nose from Ace Records
I never got the chance to listen to, let alone buy, these in the day, so this is a great opportunity to catch up on what I missed.
Also ought to mention The Sharkskins, the nearest thing to a local surf band. Night of the Neverending Reverb & Surfmania. Very cool & 1'st wave.
I have a lot of catching up to do, and never knew how much until I'd been here long enough.

I've grown very addicted to this gem over the weekend. In particular I'm most fond of "Take It Back" & "Pilgrimage".

Yeah, me too, picked it up from Deep Eddy. I wasn't as into it as I was "For the Broad Minded", but that was a seriously good record. This has its moments though, definitely don't regret the purchase

It is a shame Fre (lead guitar) has left the band. Apparently they had a nightmare getting this release out, as the master tracks got damaged and needed re-recording.

Had a long drive through flat dry paddocks under a chrystalline blue sky with a relentless sun and a hot dry, dusty wind
These were the ideal soundtrack

The Cadillac Hitmen are awesome. I'd like to see them get back togehter and put out some new music. If you don't have their 3rd CD, "Two In the Hat", pick it up. To my ears, it is their best.
