The DD model is like 2300 bucks, this one is only 700, plus its not a horribly ugly color. (im just saying thats all) |

I saw that guitar the other day - looks pretty cool. totally reverse string path. The bridge pickup is even cocked the reverse direction. I think the stagger on the pickup magnets is reversed also...

I realize it's aimed at the "Woodstock" crowd, but with the reversed headstock and the reversed pickup it mimics the dick dale strung upside down physics. I personally don't believe those two factors make a huge difference when played through a showman set to stun, but hey, it makes for a cool story And like Iron Maiden said, it's about 1,600 cheaper. Put on a tortoise guard, which I guess you would have to cut yourself for the pickup placement, and you could do that whole white/tort thing lots of folks are fond of... |

Yeah, that's the full-on "Jimi at Woodstock" guitar. I actually made myself one of those a few years back out of various Fender parts. (I'm a big Jimi fan "Beer: The cause of--and solution to--all of life's problems" Homer J. Simpson |

I think the biggest issue would be those "69 single-coil pickups" . If I wanted a budget DD guitar, I'd get one of these in shoreline gold. Then maybe put a reverse headstock neck on it? —Paul |

do you knwo if there's apic of that somewhere on the web? Iv contemplated that for years for those exact reasons you state, but Im just a bit concerned that it will look, well, mighty ugly Rules to live by #314: |

The reversed bridge pickup isn't something that stands out and makes you say "Damn is that ugly!". "Beer: The cause of--and solution to--all of life's problems" Homer J. Simpson |

I think they look kinda cool. I've wanted to do one like that for years and years. turnip, you may have me convinced to do it! Do you run Reverse pole stagger pickups as well? I'd assume that has as much to do with it as the oher reverse items. Chris —"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been" |

I read a few years ago about D.D.'s guitar - i think it was on the old SG101 yahoo group. when D.D. made his first comeback in the mid 80's, he pulled his guitar, "The Beast" out of storage, and found the bridge pickup dead. he took it to Steve Soest, and had it gone tru. steve installed a stock Fender 70's replacement pickup in the bridge. That's just what I read..... so maybe Dicks "vintage tone" isn't as vintage as we think!

Maybe true, I think I remember reading that too, but before the comeback weren't his pickups stock? Anyway, you could also avoid all that and get a signed Dick Dale Strat for $1750 from this dude: Paul |

The dude on Fender forum bought my old D.D. fake strat - He has two real D.D. strats, and is thinning the herd. —"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been" |
