Ran,
I know that yer probably not into it,
but I wish you would bring that medley back.
Especially with the upcoming Tiki Caliente performance.

You're very welcome, Ran. It's always surprising to me how few people are familiar with the Jokers. To me, they were one of the very best '60s Euro-instro bands. Incredible musicianship, often played with a great deal of energy and creativity, and many, many fantastic songs. And people here will appreciate that both guitarists used Jazzmasters exclusively! It's a realy shame they're so far under the radar, a true lost gem. but it's hard to find their releases, without a question. Los Twang! Marvels version of Danza Del Sable from the Jungle of Twang album was taken note-for-note from the Jokers, and it's a mindblowing version. (A video of them performing it used to be on YouTube but it's now sadly gone.) —Ivan |

The Jokers ARE on iTunes!!! Too awesome! http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-best-of-vol.-1/id424369008 A word of caution: though some of this stuff is amazing, some of it is also pretty cheesy (sometimes REALLY cheesy!), so proceed carefully. I'd definitely suggest sampling all the tracks before buying. The Jokers seemed to get more psychadelic and just plain weird as they evolved through the sixties. I must say that I don't care for their later material at all. It's like weird easy-listening, or sometimes even more bizarre than that... But the good stuff is most definitely worth sorting through all the crap! —Ivan |

I absolutely love the Jokers. Warren was kind enough to burn me a disc a few years ago. The Secret Samurai covers their arrangement of Carioca as it's my favorite of the many versions I've heard. —Ryan |

Good to hear, Ryan. I really wish more American surf fans would get hip to the Jokers. I think they're a natural fit for surf fans, being closer to surf than the Shadows, rautalanka, or really almost any other Euro-instro act. Anyway, Ryan, if you haven't checked all four of the CDs, I'd definitely recommend it - I just got vol. 2 on iTunes, and I know several tracks from Vol. 3, and there's great stuff on both. I've had vol. 4 for a while, and the same thing. Dig it! —Ivan |
