Permalink Seafoam Green Fender Strat with HSC - $300

New Topic

From Santa Barbara Craigslist. Not mine. In Bakersfield. Ad does not say much, but for #300 might be worth looking in to.

Yes it is. Scary nice..almost too good to be true nice! Even has the vintage decals on the headstock.

If it had a maple neck I'd be on it like a grilled ribeye steak!!
But it is a partscaster afterall......

Buyer beware: I put this guitar together from parts and sold it to guy here in Bakersfield that played in my band for two months. It's a nice guitar but is not what it is being represented to be. I used a Squier neck, leveled and redressed the frets. I then stripped and refinished the neck in clear nitro lacquer and applied a water slide decal over the top. I was going to remove the decal before he took possession but he assured me that he would never sell it with that Fender logo on it. So much for assurances. The body is paulownia wood and came prefinished in poly from Guitar Fetish and weighs about two pounds. I also used the now discontinued GFS vintage Strat pickups and it does sound nice. I believe the tremolo was from a MIM Stratocaster. Although it is a nice inexpensive guitar, it is NOT a Fender and should not be represented as one.

Regarding the luthier having built the guitar, well I do scratch build Mosrite clones as well as finish and refinish vintage guitars. Some of my projects are posted on the Mosrite forum and in this following link. http://www.mosriteforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=773

Thanks Danny for the information. I don't have anything against "parts" guitars. My favorite Strat is a "partscaster" and my favorite Jazzmaster (shown in my avatar) is a "partsmaster". I agree, however, there is some tacit misrepresentation in the Craigslist ad and your post casts some aspersions on the dude's trustworthiness. This is one reason I love SG 101. Folks who have knowledge are always willing to step up to the plate and share it. Thanks again!

Good on ya, speaking up, Danny.

Bonus points for the "professional luthier" accreditation in his CL ad. By the looks of your Mosrite page projects, I'd say he's not fibbing much. All you need is a webpage w/ a "custom order" form. Drool
