Another great idea is to buy two copies - one for yourself and one to give as a gift. We've got a cheap option to do this - for $20 you get 2 copies of the CD. That's a great deal, but you can save even more by using coupon code: DEC15 when you check out! Just use the link below and once on the Brave New Surf website page, click the "2 for $20" button:

2 days left on the kickstarter project. SG101ers have really stepped up and showed their support for surf music.
Be sure to check out the premiums this won't be available again. This is a great CD, with some brand new never released tracks by The Phantom Four and The Madeira amongst others. Buy a bunch to share with all your friends and family.

Ahem... I'm pretty sure it was that awesome video with Lady Reverb and I that sold so many people!
But seriously, the amount of advertising that this money will buy will be huge. I would guess that it will be one of the best promoted surf CDs in years. Many thanks to everybody who contributed!

So is this just going to die on the vine or what?
I know some packages are still in the mail and all, but it's kind of ridiculous that a release like this less than a half-dozen comments before the patented SG101 New Release Silence hits, while people are willing to debate at interminable length sleigh bells or "Which shaving cream gets the best vintage tone, because my bar band plans to segue from 'Mustang Sally' into 'Pipeline' and I need to nail both with my Les Paul Studio and Peavey Bandit amp."
I'll start - this was a really good kick in the ass reminder that I really have to pick up the El Supernaut and Aqualads CDs, because their songs on the comp are scary good. The unreleased Madeira and Phantom Four songs are both stunning and bode very, very, very well for their upcoming albums, and the same goes for the Surfer Joe song, which knocked me on my ass. It's cool to hear recent favorites like "Ewa on the Beach," "Momentium," "Karabasan," "Estratosfera," "Sea of Glory," "Borgo Pass," "La Caja Del Muerto," "The Khazar," etc. in the context of a comp rather than on their respective albums, too. Overall it reminds me a lot of It's A Bikini World, where there's a ton of top-shelf material, although I think Brave New Surf does a better job showing off the breadth within the genre.
Hell, I even like the mellow Los Kahunas song.
— That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Thanks for posting that Warren. I agree this is an amazing comp. I can say that without being immodest because I had nothing to do with it's conception. I only came in when we decided to do a kickstarter campaign.
It is dismaying how little actual surf music discussion there seems to be on this forum.

IMO this may be because so many SG101 members feel like their opinions about surf music aren't as valid as the opinions of the musicians on this CD, and not even as valid as the opinions of other unrecorded musicians who at least play out in public.
I'll use myself as an example. Believe it or not, I keep most of my opinions to myself. Why? Well, what do I know? How does what I think I know compare to the experience, skill, knowledge and understanding of the musicians on this CD?
I've worked very hard since picking up a guitar going on three years ago to learn as much as I can, fitting it in around my wife and kids and other more important things and even having to stop for a month each summer for my daughter's vacation. But if all I know about surf music is what I've learned here, then all I'm doing is feeding that back to the people I've learned it from. It will take a long time and much more experience for me to absorb everything and make more of it than it is already.
The second-last thing I want to do is put in print how uninformed I am about music, performing, recording, post-production, etc. The last thing I want to do is hurt the feelings of anyone who puts so much talent, time, experience, thought and heart into making surf music. That leaves me with discussions about guitars, amps, effects and playing techniques. The dreaded and endless gear discussions.
So, this is a landmark CD. It's opened me up new ideas and sounds I hadn't heard before in surf music. Just one example, and it touches on a couple of threads running concurrently about performing what you record and recording what you perform. I've listened to the Bambi Molesters on YouTube since joining SG101. Sound great live and kind of traditional surf music in an Eastern European folk music kind of way. Great stuff. I just didn't hear their track on this CD coming. As the Dark Wave Swells totally changed my opinion about this band and what surf music can be.
It's not the only track that caught me off guard. El Palmero, 7 Mares and La Caja del Meurto were also genre altering listens for me. I might have picked something else off The Tomorrowmen's and The Deadbeats CDs, because I think other tunes were a bigger stretch musically for the genre. But that takes me back to the beginning of my comment; what do I know compared to the people who assembled this CD? Or who wrote, recorded and mixed the tunes on it? Or who get up and perform for audiences?

Wow Noel, so well said. I wanted to express something similar too, but just didn't have the words for it. So I shied away.
Basically - who the f*** am I to judge stuff and why should my opinion matter.
All I can say is that this CD is awesome to the awesomest, I enjoy it so much. One thing that sticks out for me, is the amazing versatility in sounds and approaches. Surf music has come a long way.
Kudos to all involved, and than you for sticking with this no-so-profitable genre. You enrich the world with good sounds and good vibes. This is a work of love, clearly.
And big thanks to Brian.

This greatly saddens me. The point of this site is to discuss surf music. Opinions are welcome from everyone. This site would be boring, and I dare say it is recently, if only the same 4 "experts" talked about everything.

Okay, back to the CD.
I have a lot to say about this release but here is a good start. What track surprised you the most? I had heard some of these tracks before, and some were brand new. I have to say the Phantom Four track really hit me. Those guys always nail the "exotic" aspect of surf, and their playing is always so tight and tasty. It's a magnificent track.

Perfect.
I have to completely and thoroughly second Brian's comments here. There are no wrong opinions! I think we are all mature enough around here to understand that it's all subjective. Just talking to some of my close surf music friends I've already gotten a great deal of variety of viewpoints on BNS, which tracks they like and which they do not - in some cases, they are polar opposite views! I know and fully expect that not everyone will agree with all my choices of the tracks for this comp, but that's where the fun comes in! Agreements are dull, disagreements are interesting. As long as they do not become disagreeable. So, post your opinions, don't be shy. Certainly if you have something positive to say, please do. Surf musicians, as we all know, don't make much money, so it's nice to see that at least our music matters to someone and has impacted them, maybe even greatly. If you have something critical to say, that can be trickier, but as long as you're not rude or brutal about it, I think that people can take it. I personally love to see the different perspectives on music, and read about why a particular song really speaks to someone - or why it doesn't. I think that's faaaarrrr more interesting than dicussing the minutae of picks and strings, etc.
Thanks for the comments you did make, Warren, Noel and DreadInBabylon! I'm really glad to see you're enjoying the CD so much.
