Hey, say hi to Mike (Sir)Fink for me. I'm glad to see him playing again. Are you the Thunderchiefs drummer?
Hey Ted!
I signed on here a couple of days ago (or was that yesterday?) The missus and I should be in Memphis in May for the Stomp - we need to hook up! Say hey to the other Pilgrims for me!

Hey Shaun, Kicks #6 is an EXCELLENT read, and
isn't this the 2nd time you've been mistaken for Bobby in one post?

The Reluctant Aquanauts did some low quality recordings at our drummers studio at our last rehearsal. I put them up on our Myspace, "Dirty Robber" and "Justine" One mic on both amps, one over the drums, and we sang into the room mic which is a vintage shure 55. We were trying to get a Crossfires sound.

Sounds killer, Bill!

Thanks Mike, and I'm glad to see you've made over here.

Man I love Kicks, I've been buggin' Billy and Miriam to print up a compilation book of all the issues. Those two are such a riot!

Hi Mike!
Mike,
Yeah, for sure! I wish it was over a weekend, that's gonna kill me. Oh well, what a way to die (as the song goes). You can contact me here on privately or through myspace when we get closer. As I mentioned earlier, there's a good show here in Memphis on March 24th with Impala and this band called "The Devil's Journeymen" I think I have the who's who of the Thunderchiefs figured out now!

It was a hit put out by Bill Gazzari.
Silence.
Uh oh. Maybe I shouldn't have typed that.
Come to think of it, an old Lincoln Continental followed me home and has been parked outside my house ever since I got home.
Wait, I think I hear someone coming

I'm so glad Mike is pickin' with us, he needs to be heard.
He's such a precise player and a master of the genre.
I tell ya he's been writing some great tunes lately too.
Thanks for the nice words. I'm just glad to be having fun with some great folks/players! Mazooma!

Hope you're still alive, Ted?
There's another Bobby Fuller thread going on at another forum which had a post on the macabre circumstances of his death
carpet donkey
According to the official Los Angeles County Coronerâs Office autopsy report, "Deceased was found lying face down in front seat of car--a gas can, 1/3 full, cover open--windows were all rolled up & doors shut, not locked--keys not in ignition". The report also noted excessive bruising on his chest and shoulders, and attributed the cause of death to asphyxiation "due to inhalation of gasoline". Bobby had been drenched with the gasoline, and he was in a state of rigor mortis. His body appeared battered, and his right finger was broken, as if it had been bent back. The police attributed his death to suicide, with the report stating that there was "no evidence of foul play." So basically he beat himself up, broke his finger, and then drenched himself with gasoline. Oh yeah, that makes sense. The case remains closed and sealed under California law. Bobby was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, in Burbank.

That's great news!
Now, Ted, stop being coy and spill the beans about your new satanic (or should that be Satanic?) venture. Even though you're now living in the Bible Belt you still haven't learned, have you? Who's in the band, what's the MO, what songs are you playing, what's the future plans? Inquiring minds want to know!!

It's all there. I never said anything about a "new" venture. Would a new band have old Estrus labelmates? It has nothing to do with the Bible Belt, we just made an agreement that I can't get into here. So I'll just say this: if anyone in the Midwest or South is interested in more information about a great surf show in Memphis on March 24, featuring two 90s surf bands reuniting and playing together, email me off list.

Ah! This is even bigger news than I thought! Wow. Cool. Hopefully one day we can get the full story behind it. (Sadly, I'll be in the Republic of Georgia at that time, not the STATE of Georgia, which would make it pretty close...)

Some more on the different theories posted yesterday at the GaragePunk.com forums:
the loop
I did a story years ago about Bobby Fuller's death.
His brother Randy and some old friends all believe he was murdered, citing the signs of 'bruising' in the coroner's report. There were all sorts of theories. Bobby was going solo, which supposedly pissed off Bob Keane at Del-fi records, who had signed the band but allegedly failed to sign Bobby as a solo act. There was also the story that he was mixed up with a Hollywood girl who was either a hooker controlled by some mobster or the girlfriend of the mobster, so the mobster ordered the hit.
I kind of believed the murder theory, especially when I read the coroner's report which said Bobby's body was face down in the front seat with his head by the steering wheel. If someone were to sleep in his car, why would he choose the front seat? And if he did, why would he put his head by the wheel?
But I learned some other things. The 'bruising' is called lividity, and it's what happens when in the hours after death. Blood settles to the lowest point, creating bluish areas which resemble breathing. Because he was face down, what looked like bruising would be seen in his face, chest and front of his limbs. Randy told me that Bobby might have gone to sleep in the car because their mom was in town and if he came home late he wouldn't have wanted to wake her.
He also told me that he and Bobby always kept a gas can in the back seat of their car. Their parents had said it would be handy if they ran out of gas. Apparently the gas can was not tightly sealed, so fumes would have escaped, collecting inside the car while Bobby slept. Hours of inhaling the fumes would account for the high presence of gasoline in his system.
One of his friends who had been at the Hollywood apartment said that all ngiht they kept looking from the balcony to see if Bobby had parked his car in the lot. He claimed that it suddenly appeared in the morning.
It always surprised me that the police didn't make much of an investigation into the death. But it was 1966, and to them he was just some rocker dude. Also the beloved Chief Parker of the LAPD had just died and the force was so involved with all the funeral (which had a big parade of the force) that they didn't give his death much concern.
We will never know what really happened. Sadly, the myster of Bobby's death helps keep his legend alive.
