hi guys i have a xaviere jt100 and i have played it allot over some
time. and i think the feel of this guitar is amazing and i love the rather flat radius fretboard..... but it hums like crazy and when i use the trem there is clicking sounds and what not..
so to all tech guys is it hard to shield this thing?
and would there be an idea to slap on a avri trem and
some duncan pups?

Part of the problem is their pickups aren't noise cancelling. You can solve this by flipping one of them upside down. You need to remove the leads from it, then run them through the holes in the bobbin from the other side. That's if you're good with a soldering iron.
The other thing you could do is swap the neck pickup with an AVRI. The GFS Jazzmaster pickups are the same polarity as AVRI Jazzmaster bridge pickups, so to get hum cancelling, mix AVRI neck with GFS bridge.
You can also get shielding paint or tape and cover the inside cavity and underside of the pickguard. Just make sure it's wired to a ground lead. That should help a little.

ok shielding seems pretty stright forward...so you say the pickups arent
nois cancelling, i guess swapping both pick ups for seymore duncans
will take care of this? or is it in the wireing?
thanks

Yes, swapping out for Seymour Duncans would fix that. It's just GFS that doesn't offer noise cancelling Jazzmaster pickups (I have no idea why). Of course you'll still get noise with SDs with only one pickup or the other selected, but with both pickups on you'll get no noise.

You also asked about the AVRI tremolo, two thumbs up for that mod. I had that done along with the initial setup, and it feels much more solid. Actually the replacement AVRI part feels much nicer than the one on my AVRI Jazzmaster...

I didn't think it was possible, but Xaviere managed to replace their ugly headstock with an even uglier one...
Anyway, the new headstock looks exactly like the one on the offset Jack & Danny guitars :

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the "new" Xavieres were rebranded J&D JM-40s. I know that some time ago Xaviere had two different types of Jazzmasters (the regular sized JT-40 with P90s and smaller JT-100 with JM pickups) which were apparently from different factories.
I don't know about the quality of the J&D JM-40 (and consequently the new XV JT-100), but my J&D Tele copy is a fantastic guitar for its price. But I suspect the J&D Teles and offsets may actually come from different factories.

LeeVanCleff,
That picture you posted is the J&D JM-10 which is the guitar I have, but as your pictures show, it's basically a strat copy with an offset body. I believe that was one of the first models that they made and they later went to more of a Jazzmaster copy with the floating bridge.
I got mine from Fret City in Toronto Canada but their website has indicated they are "closed for renovation" for quite some time now and Rob didn't return an email I sent him so they might be out of business so I can't find the specs on those.
That Xaviere looks exactly like those later model JM-40's that Fret City was selling, but likely there are different parts here and there depending on the specifications of the buyer.

After I sanded down the ragged pickguard which was cut a bit sloppy (probably a dull bit), and put on flatwound 10's to tame the hot pups somewhat, and did a tone pot mod to be able to link the neck and bridge pups, I'm pretty happy with it. And the nice part is that those mods were very inexpensive and easy to do (I had help with the tone pot mod because I'm not good with electronics so if I could do it, anyone could).
The construction itself is great, I couldn't find a flaw in the paint and the frets were nicely dressed for this pricepoint (all the other guitars I looked at in this pricerange shredded your fingers). So no real concerns other than they skimped a bit on the shielding. I get static crackles (more so in winter when it's really dry here) if I rub the pick guard (no surf genies have appeared yet!)

Yup, I was talking about the J&D JM-40 even though I posted pics of the JM-10. Sorry about the confusion.
Musicstore.com in Germany sells the J&D guitars, but not the newer JM-40. I don't recommend buying there though. I had a problem with them once and their customer service is inexistant, and a bit of research revealed that lots of people have had the same experience.
Poppa_Surf, your opinion about your JM-10 is similar to what I think about my J&D Tele : a very good guitar with a fantastic neck and faultless frets. The pickups are OK but not great, but that's easy to upgrade. Thanks for the review, I'm pretty interested in the JM-10, but since Musicstore seems to be the only J&D dealer now I think I'll pass
Anyway, sorry about the threadjacking. gui_SURF_tar, I hadn't noticed you were from Norway. How was your experience with GuitarFetish? I've read some horror stories from European customers receiving bad guitars from GF and being stuck with them because of the cost of sending them back. Considering the cost of shipment and import taxes, I guess the new Mascis signature Squier JM looks like a safer alternative for those of us who live in Europe.

hi leevancleet i am happy with the gfs transaction the guitar looks real nice and i actually think the feel is awesom i play it allot. im just not happy with the shielding not sure if mine is worse or the same as others?
but it hiss and cracle a bit. and the trem could need an adjustment,
but for the money i am happy with it...not sure what the guitar you are refering to costs here though, guitars are rather expensive here in norway so i pretty much buy all my guitars from us and never had any problems
