Dick Dale is featured in the August 2011 issue of Guitar Player magazine. They have a running series "Ten things you gotta do to play like ..." and this time they feature DD!

Can you (or someone else) scan the article and send it to me ?
It's quite impossible to find Guitar Player in Belgium unless I suscribe for 1 year (and I don't need this Dick Dale article this bad)

Read it last night. The article is not completely accurate** (nothing connected to DD ever is!), but it's good. And it actually shows you how to play parts of many of his songs, also explaining some theory behind it. I give it a thumbs up!
A bonus: Jet Harris is pictured in the ad on the back of the magazine! (I think for Hofner?)
** A couple of inaccuracies off the top of my head: Let's Go Trippin' is NOT reverb-drenched - in fact, the guitar was recorded completely dry; the way the "Dick Dale Kit" for the speakers is described makes it sound like it's simply a regular JBL D130F, as upgraded from a D130 - I'm not sure if this is what DD said, or if they misreported him; finally, this isn't the magazine's fault, but rather DD's - he says he's had all of the same gear since about '57 - given that his gear is a rosewood-board Strat, reverb units and Dual Showman amps, the more likely date is '60-'61. Alright, it's a nitpick, but given how much was changing at Fender during those years, why not be accurate about it...

The "Guitar World Magazine" August 2011 issue features "100 Greatest Classic Rock Guitar Songs". DD checks in at #50 with "Miserlou"-ahead of "Rumble" (62) and "Walk, Don't Run" (92), but behind "Beat It" (22 ????????????).

Gave it a read yesterday- nothing spectacular (I just couldn't read the techie explanations of his technique), but I'm glad him and the scene are getting some attention. Anyone know what "the beauty" looks like? Is it a dupe of "the beast"? One of the new acoustics or something? First time I heard it mentioned I think.

got a copy of the magazine yesterday. very interesting. very nice technical explanation of what most of us have been doing for years!! couldn't read a bit of it--too much tech, not enough rage!!!
glad to see Dick got more recognition!! he should have more-IMHO!!
good for surf guitarists in general i think. we would enjoy more attention i think!

About time Dick Dale gets back in Guitar Player Magazine! The Beast is the only Stratocaster I ever drooled over. Love that tone!

Thanks for that narciso. I recall looking for it there when the thread started and noticing what seemed to be most issues from a month or two prior made it online. I forgot to go back and look for this one.
Thanks again!

Hello everyone,
i read an '81 Dick dale interview and he said that his
original guitar was in the Huntington Beach surf museum
and it was stolen. this was an '81 guitar magazine interview.
Can any experts confirm that and if it was ever recovered???

His original guitar - pictured below - is still at the museum. I think its a right handed Magnatone that has been converted to Lefty. More info here

DD used that Magnatone guitar in the Marilyn Monroe film "Lets make Love" (1960). Here he is doing his Elvis Rockabilly thing in the film...
