I hear alot of nice things about the Squier CV Strat 60's. Are these that good compared to the MIM's or Classic Players Strats?

The Classic Players 60's are MIM and have Custom Shop '69 pickups. Mine sounds and plays great, but the pickups are a bit weak for my taste. |

I was at Guitar Center last week trying out different versions of the Mustang Amp. Played a Fender Classic Series 50's Strat (Mexican) and a Squier Classic Vibe '50's Strat through the Mustang ii and iii. Except for some sharp fret edges, the Squier had it all over the Fender. Better tone, better playability, craftsmanship and finish as good, if not better (except for the fret edges) and much more output from the pickups. Both could have used a bit of a setup, but that's to be expected. —You're not drunk if you can put your socks on while standing. |

Sounds good to me. I will have to go try a Squire out. |

I picked up a Classic Vibe 50's 8 months ago, and I like it a lot. I'd say that, for $300, I now can enjoy a fairly authentic Strat experience. As for playability, the neck is good but I find the neck on my Classic Players Jaguar a bit more comfortable, as it seems wider and flatter. |

in my opinion, the squier classic vibe 50's has it all over the MIM strats. i've played several in the last 5 or 6 months and they play easier and sound better than the MIM strats. for 300 bucks, a lake placid blue one is probaqbly my next purchase.....then a new fender modern player jaguar. and on it goes!! Enjoying the surf, sun and sand!! |

I have settled on a CV Strat, but any opinions on which is better for playing Surf Music, blues, jazz, Shadows on a CV 50's or 60's? |

Below is my post from the recent thread about solid state amps with Vox tones. The portions relevant to your question are in bold. I vote for the '50's. I played a '60's a couple years ago and while it has a great sound, it doesn't have the twang and edge that the '50's has. "Played a sweet (really sweet) Fiesta Red Squier CV '50's Strat through the Pathfinder. Must have been 10 kids in the store playing Les Pauls and SG's through Marshalls at full gain, so they let me use a little private room. Very impressed! For such a small package it puts out a lot of sound. Clean and chimey, just what I want for a practice amp. Reverb isn't the best, but they let me put a Boss FRV-1 into the loop and it sounded great. Not a Twin Reverb with an outboard unit, but very acceptable. Also very close to Bruce Welch territory for Shads rhythm, although I think that astounding little Squier strat had something to do with it. For $119 + tax I said "I'll take one". Bad news..all sold out, more expected next week. The sales rep said that as soon as an order comes in, they sell out. And nobody ever brings one back. So I'll buy one on line. Now I need to sell the Mustang ii. Guess I'm just an old analog type guy! Off topic: This is the second Squier Classic Vibe '50's Strat I have played at guitar center. I asked if this one had been set up, because it played like butter and sounded wonderful. Was told it was right out of the box. Incredible! —You're not drunk if you can put your socks on while standing. |

Another thumbs up for the Squier CVs. I had a MIM Strat for 10 years, then got a 50s CV Strat. The Squier is better in every aspect that I can think of. I had been wanting to have a surf green Strat for ages so I ended up buying a Fender 50s surf green body and paired it with the CV neck. The stock Squier pickups are great so I kept those as well. —Shawn Martin |
