Permalink Fender Blues Junior III (Doubts....)

New Topic

Hi all¡¡¡ Well after that I trouble you for help with the election of an amp .... I decided on the Fender Blues Junior III and I have it in my home.
I bought it second hand on a member of a forum for my country and I am very happy with the amp .... besides this almost new and in original box ... so I think it was a good buy .. ..

What I wanted to mention to and if possible, I shed some light and to give me your opinions and advice .... is the following:

From what I've been reporting that the series is HOT ROD III, which belongs my amp, it has some changes and "improvements "....

Specifically, the Fender Blues Junior III have changed the speaker ("Lightning Bolt" by Eminence) and have added the "Sparkle mod ".... it seems that acts on the treble or high frequencies.
I have no very clear is if you have tried this modification is to improve the treble response, travel, etc. or simply making is that the amp sounds more Trebes than previous models ....
I have not had the opportunity to try a Blues Junior oldest editions, so I could compare it to the Fender Blues Junior III and hear that difference in sound and quality between some issues and other ....

In some articles I've read online say that with this modification has been sought to give a touch more Fender "Blackface" and a quality most "brilliant" shooting sound "surfing ".... thing that can benefit me because one of the styles of music that I play, plus "Blues", is instrumental "Surf" music ... My truth is that it sounds very "bright", the truth ... and with a sound very "bubbly" and "live" so to speak .... With bass control, mid and high positions to half or twelve gives a fairly clean sound and "brilliant" but I think balanced, without being "sharp" or treble irritating .... if this is not equalization adjustment will give good results in the rehearsal room ... at the moment I have only been able to test volumes from home, with half volume and master control at 2 .... the truth is that if in the rehearsal room gives me a result with all the EQ controls half (Bass, Middle and Treble) would be delighted ... so would have to worry about playing and not to be "fiddling" controls every now and then ... (something of which "sin" a lot and am a bit "paranoid", I admit ....).

By the way, if it helps .... play (among other guitars ...) with a Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster 50, a Squier Jagmaster practically transformed into a "Jaguar" (Jaguar and Fender pickups with all switches, circuit rithm, etc ... characteristic of a Fender Jaguar conventional), with an Indie IRK5 ... that is an imitation of a Rickenbacker 33 .... and a Eastwood Saturn 63.

Also I have to say that the room where the trial will be a maximum of 10 square meters .... and now we play only "instrumental" and we are only two guitars and drums .... we have not found a kind soul who wants playing bass with us ... .... I should add also that we only rehearsed together ..... just to hang out in the rehearsal room once or twice a month ...We do not play in concerts
Nothing, I bring forth would greatly appreciate your opinion on the Fender Blues Junior III, if anyone has been able to test, etc. .... and say something about what I have told you about the EQ, etc ....
I hope I have been very heavy with a text as long ...¡¡¡

P.D:
As a curiosity, I leave a video of a Fender Blues Jr review III Limited Edition ... actually, the only difference with the normal Fender Blues Junior III, in addition to the color red, is that you have put a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker . What caught my attention is that the minute 1:53 says that "Sparkle mod" gives the "classic" tone of a Fender "Blackface ".... especially if you scoop the MIDS and crank the BASS .... What I create some confusion is that in the video sounds very good this setting but my big question is whether it will work in the context of a trial with more instruments ... and I've always heard that the MIDS are very important to have "presence" in the mix with other instruments .... correct me if I'm wrong ... right? This is the video:

Since you say anything and I thank you in advance¡¡¡ A greeting¡¡¡

If you're looking for that Fender Blackface sound you have the wrong amp??

Yes, you can do numerous things to change the character of the amp but much of that is just preferance (speaker swaps, etc.).

As far as the "Hotrod III" most of that was just marketing hype imo, I've seen little difference between older Blues Jr and the latest model. Same with the Pro Jr.

You could do worse, just go with what ya got and make it work.

METEOR IV on reverbnation

^^^ Everything Las_Barracudas said is on the spot.

The sparkle mode is a weird design decision for this amp IMO, the BJr. is bright enough as it is (was). Still, more control&options is always good. The updated speaker is beter, but not really good.

Any way you may upgrade it, it may sound a little better, but it is what it is - the circuit and the box define this amp. Very different animal from a Blackface, no matter what you'll do. I suggest to accept it and embrace it. Play it for a while and have fun, and when the time comes for a different amp - only then start brainstorming.

Really, nevermind all that, enjoy your amp, it has tubes.
Seems that for your needs right now it'll do the job just fine, and it certainly has plenty of volume.

Confidence man! You already bought it, now what's to doubt? Rock that thing!
Don't let the other guys you play with judge you- it's your rig and you command it. You're say you're happy with it, then that's it.

That BJ will be fine for what you have in mind so go ahead and enjoy it. The perception of what it can do will change for the better when you play with the other musicians. Remember your BJ is almost new, so the speaker will take a bit of time to break in and lose some of the harsh tones straight out of the box.

Good luck finding a kind soul to play the bass guitar, it sounds like a good opportunity for someone.
