Reverb Junkies,
I'm trying to flesh out the surf music reference library and do some research for future projects/writing.
I'm extremely interested in obtaining copies of books, magazines, and 'zines that have anything to do with surf music.
I'm familiar with the obvious sources, I just wanted to reach out to all the other fanatics on here personally. And, I know that many people out there are looking for the same things, but it never hurts to ask, right?
If anyone has any extra copies, doubles, entire collections they want to get rid of, or just feel like selling something to a really appreciative new home, I'm seeking any and all of the following:
Books:
Robert J. Dalley: Surfin' Guitars: Instrumental Surf Bands of the Sixties FOUND
Stephen J. McFarland: Surf Beat: The Dick Dale Story FOUND
Magazines/Clippings:
Anything that contained a surf music-related article.
'Zines:
Surf Music USA (Bob Dalley)
The Continental Magazine (Double Crown)
Pipeline Instrumental Review (Alan Taylor)
The Wedge (Eric Johnson)
New Gandy Dancer (Davey Peckett)
I'm especially interested in anything by Bob Dalley.
Thanks!

JonPaul - I have a copy of the Robert Dalley book, email me if you want it. I have no idea of price - maybe a contribution to the site?

I've got a few old issues of Guitar Player Magazine where they talk about surf (every 10 years or so!).Also, I've got an issue of Surfer magazine from the early 90s about surf music. There is a HILARIOUS sidebar to it on the many reasons on how the song 'Surfer Joe' is the worst surf song of all time!

Do tell. I mean, besides the terrible vocal, what makes it the worst?

Big thanks to everyone that has responded so far!
I REALLY appreciate it!
I assure you that anything you agree to part with will be like an investment in (what I hope to be) future readings on surf music and its history.
And, we all knew it already, but Sonichris REALLY IS one of the kindest and most altruistic gentlemen on SG101!

Jon Paul, CD liner notes, particulary on SUNDAZED releases like Lost legends of Surf Guitar, are chock full of great info. Especially for more obscure bands.

I remember thumbing through a friends magazines there were scattered articles about surf. Try searching back issues of BOMP, Ugly Things and MOJO.

Which issues of The Continental do you need?

Thanks, Danny. I've managed to track down a couple of those old Who Put The BOMP magazines--excellent early articles by John Blair.
Warren, I'm looking for anything before #10.
Thanks!

The Dick Dale book can be ordered directly from the author along with some other great books on surf music although quite a few of them are now sold out.

I managed to make a couple of really satisfying scores recently: 20 back issues of Pipeline and 10 issues of Bob Dalley's Surf Music USA! The library's far from complete, but it's definitely growing! It's very interesting to gain an insight into the state of the scene back in the day, especially in the mid 90s.

Nice! Until recently these were the only two issues of Kicks you could get from Norton. I believe their remaining stock was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy, so these are going to be hard to find now. In a recent Norton e-blast, they mentioned that Kicks #1 was going to be reprinted as a fundraiser for the label. I think I'm missing #1-4 in my collection, so I'll definitely be picking this reprint up.
