So, is the Surfer's Stomp a specific dance? I keep reading about it, but never really seeing any description of the steps or moves or whatever. Can you find instructions on how to do the surfer's stomp like you can the twist etc?
not that I'm going to start a dance revival. ..

Here ya go! From the film BLUE SURFARI. Even though in says 1966 the footage is from around '63 '64. At 3:40 you'll see The Blazers playing to a bunch of kids on the beach doing the Surfer Stomp! Check it out...

The Stomp is that shuffle like thing they're doing. But yes, there's a bit of Watusi in there too!

Thanks. I've been interested in this, though for all practical purposes I am footdeaf. Moving feet all look the same to me. In fact, after watching anyone dance for a while I become extremely depressed, like a rat who can't figure out which button the other rats are pressing to get a treat.

^A Haunting We Will Go-Go contains the diagrams for learning the Ghastly Stomp!(included in the cd booklet) Or maybe you're more suited for The Alligator?

I was just watching this last night!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGH9pmbBJOg
Michael Z. Gordon talks about how the song Surfers Stomp came about in the replys.
"I don't know if you're aware of this but we went down to Balboa and we saw the kids dancing, I asked what they were doing and they said, "the Surfer's Stomp". At that time, there was no song with that name so I went home and wrote the song and we recorded it a week later on our own label called Union Records.. Next thing I knew, the record was being played all over the West Coast so i quit my job and took my band out on the road to promote the record & toured for the next 5 years."
Here is the scene from Surf Party where the kids are doing the Surfer's Stomp he refers to.

Damn! Ask and you shall receive! Those diagrams are priceless. There really should be a revival--when's the last time there was a good dance craze?

Ok so here's something I've been wondering for a while: what constitutes a "stomp" in the musical sense? In some Phil Dirt review he claimed a song with "stomp" in the title was not in the "stomp style". What does this mean, exactly?

Probably the most recognised song is Stompin' at the Savoy. The dance was the Lindy Hop. The first vid shows the Lindy Hop. The stills in the second vid tie the dance to the song.
If you watch the dance long enough, you'll see some real stompin'.

EDIT! This probably has to be my worst post ever, but I was trying to be silly.

Jon and the Nightriders used to give out fliers with the instructions for doing the surfer's stomp. I kinow this, because John brought one over for me when Dead Man's Curve supported the Nightriders in London in the late 1990's. I still have it.

Sounds like a good idea to me. It seems like even those who can dance seem a little puzzled at times. Mostly people swing dance to songs that fit and sit the others out. As I am always sitting, I have time to notice this.

Legend has it that Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols invented the Pogo dance craze in the mid 1970s but in this early 1960s Dick Dale footage I can clearly see the audience pogoing. Can anyone explain this please.
