A friend of WoodyJ's shot this video of The Surge! doing a song called Hell Hole at the East Atlanta Strut on Sept.17th, which I believe was around before I was in the band but for some reason we never played, which is a shame, because listening to it here I realize it's very good. I guess they decided to bring it back. Yet another example of how good sound can be on a little hand held cam.

Thanks for posting that, Richard. Unfortunately it appears you have to have a Facebook account to view it.
Hell Hole is actually a Mariners song that is on the "Wrong Planet" CD we did back in 2000. I wrote the chords and our pal Eddie Katcher graciously came up with the melody. When The Surge was the X-Rays back in the late 90's-early 2000's we played it from time to time and got good crowd response so we recently brought it back into the set. We'll most likely play it this weekend at the Clarkston Surf Fest.
My daughter recorded the vid on a camera phone and the audio came out better than I expected.

Hey Jack, check your email. I'll see if I can get that vid uploaded to Youtube. I thought I remembered seeing it on the old X-Ray's "Senseless Acts of Surf" disc and was unaware of The Mariner's disc. Was I remembering right?

Ah, you are right, Richard...I had forgotten that Hell Hole is also on the X-Rays "Senseless Acts" CD. I played bass on that version, lead on The Mariners one. Both were recorded a long time ago!

Hell Hole got it's name from the Ocoee River powerhouse rapid where Eddie K has been known to play in his whitewater canoe.
Check out the youtube vids on Ocoee's Hell Hole. In the early days we had no real clue what ocean surfing was all about but "surfing" river rapids was what gave me the inspiration to write Paddle or Die, Patton's Run, Boofin'. Surf! you Turkey, Second Helping, How the West was Surfed, and Durango Beach.
One thing about Hell Hole.................you do NOT want to swim there as "Power House" is right behind it and can be really ugly. It is shallow with a mean re-circ. It can kick your ass.
