Not really a surf album and certainly not instro but...
Finally tracked this bad boy down. The "lost" Insect Surfers Album That We Don't Talk About Anymore. This album is lots of fun and I really dig it. For those who are unaware or haven't seen these yet, here's some vintage pre-surf Insect Surfers footage (starring a familiar face).

That is a GREAT album, zzero--congrats.
My two latest both arrived today . . .
"Tzar Wars" The Space Cossacks
"Jungle of Twang" Los Twang! Marvels
Two modern classics that I needed to add to my collection.

The mailman droped this off yesterday:
The Legend himself, at 73, has put out a new album. He teamed up with Richard Hawley (from Pulp) and wrote/cowrote most of the songs. A lot of it is down tempo, but wow what a sound. There are some really good tracks on here.
The only problem with this album is that its a UK release so you have to buy it online from someone who will import it. I've seen some sites sell this CD for $30, luckily I found some folks on Amazon that were able to get it to me for about $15.
Get it!

Got Los Obligados Racing Team by Lost Acapulco yesterday. They are currently on a european tour, and this week they have been in Norway.
Saw them here in Halden yesterday, and yep; great band, great record

I got this 2 weekends ago at Tiki Oasis,
when the Sand Devils played a room party for the release of this cd.
Sadly it wasn't available a week earlier for SG101 convention.
but you can get it now, see here:
http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/16113/
The Sand Devils is a Heavy/Trad surf band.
I always like to think of them as the perfect Mix of the Torquays,
meets Ran(guitarist) old band the Astroglides.
There is plenty of catchy melodies, but performed with a lot of Huevos
no not eggs,
go to the link above and then in the link about the cd, is a link to a song to listen to.

The Surf A's are a great Dutch band. Their sound is not trad, but relies
on it as a foundation from which to launch new sounds and ideas.

So after some uneventful crate digging I stumbled upon something I hadn't seen before: Rhino's History of Surf Music Volume 3. I've been looking for more info on 80s surf bands and this has some bands like The Surf Raiders and The Malibooz that I haven't been able to find at all. Right behind it was Jon & The Nightriders Live at the Whisky for $5 so I was pretty pumped.
I also found some Deke Dickerson 45s that I was more excited to find than I had expected. T.J. Tuck & Roll b/w This is Ecco-Fonic and Swingin' in Outer Space b/w Diggin' It. Neither of them have dates, does anyone know anything about them? Swingin' in Outer Space is a really cool instro, haven't had time to listen to the other one yet.
All in all, today was a good day to spend lots of money on music. Again.

Found this in the dollar bin today:
It's a little beat up and dusty, but with a savings of $999,999 I'm not one to complain!

In addition to the recent acquisitions of the Deadbeats, Mike Barbwire and (late to the game) The Break albums, a friend that used to own a record store dropped off a bunch of 7"s. A lot of them were crappy forgettable punk but it did have
Satan's Pilgrims - The Rise and Fall of Flingel Blunt
and a split 7" with one side by the Casino Royales. Can't find any details online about the band but all three tracks were great

The reverb gods must be watching over us lately.
I was lucky enough to have another good day of finds in the wild today.
Sometimes it's embarrassing to admit some of the things I don't already have, but where else can one share their excitement over finding things like this?!
I've always passed on this, but for .92, I finally just bit the bullet:
Another .92 score:
This one was a whopping $3.68:

And then the piece de resistance:

I'm a happy man.

Today I went through about 3-400 unsorted 45s looking for anything vaguely surf-related. Found a Les Paul instro, Scotty Anderson's Sleepwalk/Orange Blossom Special, and the closest I came was the Go-Go's "Surfing and Spying". I had given up hope until I found these two an hour later:
Then this guy was in the bargain bin
Not bad for a buck apiece

modern surf 7"s are a wonderful thing where the same 7"s go minimum 5 bucks on eBay if they appear at all, but are practically practically flat priced at an average of $2 in record stores' 7" box

Those are some great scores - our Boss Martians release is nearly sold out and with cover art by Shag, it's somewhat of a collector's item. The Ghastly Ones 7" is also sold out (I believe), and the Jon & The Nightriders 7", of course, is hard to find too. Probably the best $3 purchase you'll ever make!

I'm really looking forward to this one, obviously as a fan of Duane Eddy, but also of Richard Hawley. Gonna have to wait until it's available in the US, or via iTunes or Amazon MP3 though...
