Permalink I want to upgrade my Blues JR. reverb pan

New Topic

Hey there, I have a Fender Blues Jr. tweed NOS amp and although the reverb is good, it isn't "wet" and intense enough for me. I know getting a 63 reissue reverb tank would be the answer to this but I don't have $600 to spend right now, and am looking for a temporary solution until I can toss out six bills for the "real stuff". So, what would you recommend as a good replacement pan? Or would a reverb pedal be a better option? Confused The Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail pedal sounds good on youtube but I haven't tried it out. I need to be soaking in spring reverb while on a budget! Big Grin

I'm going through the same thing with a Kustom 112 Defender...
I had a Fender Frontman 212r and had put a 16" accutronics reverb pan in and it made a huge difference!
threw the same pan in my new Kustom and though it sounded better the reverb was to far back in the mix for me.
bought a Boss FRV-1 pedal but haven't got it yet but I'm thinking it will do the trick for me.
here's the topic I started about my amp. it might help you.

ok cool thanks, I'll look up the accutronics pan. Its hard to get the right sound when you don't have the actual outboard reverb tank

Let me know how the Boss frv-1 sounds when you get it, I'm curious as to what it really sounds like.

I have the Boss FRV-1 pedal, and now I have a '64 vintage tank... I was actually surprised how well they modeled the tank. The pedal is a bit tinny and one-dimensional compared to the real tank, but does the drip surprisingly well if you're on a budget.

There are many, many Boss FRV-1 threads in the archives if you search.

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

got mine today and am very happy with it!
I did find that if I add about 1/2 or my amps spring reverb I get a more analog sound and I really like that.
it was a good buy I think. found I have to run it before my Carl Martin surf-trem pedal though, sounded really weak running it after the trem.

Well sounds like I'm gonna have to try one out! If its got the drip, then that should hold me over for a while

I did a quick video of mine tonight. sorry, the audio sucks and so does my playing tonight!
I did amp reverb, pedal, then the two mixed.
it might help you decide if it's something you want to look into.

Hey thanks for the vid, it's a better vid than some of the others on youtube. It definitely beats my Blues Jr's tank and the "drip" on the frv-1 is pretty dang close, I'm surprised that a little Boss pedal could throw out 'verb that wet. I'm going to guitar center this weekend w/ my amp to see if they pair well together, and if so then I'm not going to bother switching out reverb pans; I'll just get the frv-1.

glad to help!
I tried to give an idea as what to expect for anyone looking at it who plays this kind of music.
soooo sick of seeing reviews on pedals and amps that just play blues or metal!!
