This marks my 4th and final Video Thread from the "SURF GUITAR 101 CONVENTION 2011 WEEK-END". I filmed the assorted videos at the 15th Annual "Surfin' Sundays" Concert Series at Pier Plaza produced with the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum, Huntington Beach, California, August 14, 2011.
I will at times need help with the titles!!
Let's get things rolling with videos from 2 bands.
THE DEADBEATS
"HAGBELLY"

"OSE SHALOM"

I really enjoyed these bands, on more than one occasion, no less, throughout the Convention Week-End.

Thanks, Freddie! Those Preachers songs I sat in on turned out pretty good. The background for that: Bruce, the Preachers' rhythm/steel guitarist, works for Verizon and got ensnared in that whole labor dispute they just went through, forcing him to cancel his trip to SoCal for the Convention just days before they were all supposed to leave! The guys told me he was pretty torn up about it, both for letting down the band but also for not getting to see Davie Allan, of whom he's a huge fan. But Verizon told their employees that anybody that took vacation time during this period, even if scheduled for a long time, was fired. Unbelievable. Bruce already had the plane ticket, everything. What a bummer. The guys decided to go ahead and do the shows as a 3-piece. I'm glad to see that people enjoyed seeing them, and they definitely pulled it off, I thought. But it's a shame that SoCal didn't get the full Preachers experience, together with the great steel guitar playing by Bruce, which really adds another (and uncommon) dimension to their sound. Hopefully they can go back soon with Bruce in tow!
Anyway, given this bit of a bad luck, I was extremely happy to help them out for a few songs (all completely unrehearsed). It was a privilege and an honor to play with the Cocktail Preachers! Thanks, guys!

Thanks Freddie, as always, the videos are great.
And yeah, Ivan, your sitting in with the CP's was great. We played a show with them on the Friday (along with the Tequila Worms) and I was blown away by Steve's guitar playing-- would have loved to catch them as the full 4-piece, but as an impromptu 3-piece I thought they were amazing. They were staying at the same hotel, and we got to hang with them a bit, and they are awesome guys, too! Had more fun that I can put in words... they tried to kidnap me (LOL) for more action on Sunday nite, but I couldn't do it, with a flight home the next day... but would have loved to!!!

Thanks especially to JEFF BIG TIKI DUDE, LINDA/JOHN MILLER from the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum, DICK DALE and his beautiful Wife for swinging by and lending a surreal groove to the day (see picture below), for all the bands, the venues, the fans of surf-beat reverb, the "surf music community" in general. Man how I just love to visit Southern California!
ENJOY
