So far I haven't heard of any injuries or major damage, but it seems to have been felt very widely, including Massachusetts and Ohio. You're the first data point for south of there. I think it coincides with the release of your video. |

I'm in Kalamazoo, western Michigan, and we felt the earthquake fairly strongly even out here. I'm in a 10-story building, and it was swaying (though not a huge amount, just a bit) - and for a long time, about a minute. Crazy. —Ivan |

Felt it in my office (ground level) in New York. Every one thought I was crazy until they checked the news. My buddies up north in Toronto felt it as well! |

A WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN' GOIN' ON up here! I felt a 'rumble' (NO, NOT LINK WRAY!), a little 'shimmy shimmy koko-bop' for a moment and could swear I detected some 'sound' from it too.... kinda like "I feel the train a-comin'" in all seriousness, I did detect it but didn't realize at the time it was the earthquake a friend of mine works in the New York Courthouse (State) and they all felt it, and came running out the Federal Courthouse was supposedly swaying!! DAMN! being UNSTEADY, if I was walking, I would have thought it was me!!! Subways and Buses are supposedly running "normal" -- then again, a guy like Me has trouble identifying anything as "normal" other than the setting on a washing machine or dryer! HOPE EVERYONE IS OK!! about 150P, I was sitting in my chair about to get up and felt my chair, legs and even the building sway....pretty scary. Everybody came out of their office with these petrified looks on their faces, until someone told us what happened. |

I was in downtown DC on a conference call when it rumbled through the office. The building shook, ceiling tiles rattled and my buddy told me to stop running around the halls (yes, I am a big guy). A woman in the hall asked if I felt the earth move and I said "Not lately". Although I am waiting for my copy of the Tommorrowmen CD which according to folks here might change that. |

what was the Richter scale reading of it? here is an article why it was felt over such a wide area. Jeff(bigtikidude) Last edited: Aug 24, 2011 00:18:15 |

And FYI, if the building is swaying, you are safe. If a tall building is shaking, you are probably going to die. 5.8 is semi-strong if it is shallow. Especially in a place that doesn't expect a quake. Jeff, when was your last quake down there? Up here we haven't had one since 2011, a 6.9. |

The last one I felt was probably a 6.5 or Jeff(bigtikidude) |

In the Denver-Boulder area modern style skyscrapers all sway a bit from time to time, but it's just the wind. |

Our 3 story building shook pretty good here in Annapolis, MD. Luckily, the Malaysian CPA I work with yelled "Tsunami", no I mean "Earthquake", and we started running outside. I was shaking for a few minutes (true). We're used to hurricanes, but earthquakes are a different beast. The local media, which is a constant embarassment, ran pictures of people crying, store shelves crashing and I think a car accident (that may or may not have been caused by the QUAKE). I'm definitely tossing some respect to our West Coast bro's who go through this on a regular basis. I couldn't do it. Surf. The most dangerous of genres... Surfcat MARCH OF THE DEAD SURFERS!
