Permalink TAD Reverb Pan - Best pan ever!

New Topic
Goto Page: Previous 1 2 3 Next

I'll go-ahead and call an OT foul on myself for what follows Very Happy

Tuck
It may not apply very south of the Mason Dixon Line, either.

Good call on location, Tuck. It is relative and important. For example, I always get confused when my friends from Boston and near by townships say they cannot find their "kah-keys"... are they looking for a tan pair of pants or something to start their vehicle?

Rimshot

I do look forward to the aforementioned/requested samples when folks get these pan's hooked up.

I'm with Joelman 100% - I read all the way through this thread looking for info about the pan. THAT'S what this post is for. How do these things stray so far off course? Crying

Please, anyone who ends up trying one of these pans, let us know what amp/tank you tried them with and what you think of them. I've NOT been happy with the sound of my Fender reissue tank to the point where I no longer use it. Maybe this could be a solution?

You could throw the baby out with the bath water; I believe Dario may still have a G-Spring or two left (www.gomezamps.com or PM to DGG here.) I've yet to see/hear a bad word about his units.

Alternatively, there are a number of posts (here + elsewhere) about modifications to the reissues that folks have done. I reckon this pan as a swap may be one to add to the list - and definitely for less $ than a new unit.

One of the more exhaustive threads on tweaks / modifications I remember reading out here:

Any more info on the TAD pan?
Is there a way to get one to the U.S. without having to pay an arm and a leg for shipping?

Hi,
Ive installed the TAD pan in my 90s Reissue tank!
Before I had installed 1963 Gibbs springs in the original pan. It sounded good.

NOW I have installed the TAD pan and: YES!!!! WHAT a drippy wet sound! Much better than the original sound and much better than it sounded with the Gibbs mod.
I compared it with my 1962 tank. The original tank sounds still better. A little bit more defined and clearer.

But all in all I can really suggest the TAD pan!!!! Solid german quality! It`s not cheap! TAD did a very well job!
I am really satisfied with it!
Get it!

I did a little movie where I compared the sounds. I still have to cut the movie a bit... When its finished I will post it at youtube and give you all a link to it. So you can even hear the difference if youre interested.

Twang cheers!

One more happy TAD pan owner! I think I'll give them a try. Waiting for the video Ralf.

These days I play an old Gibbs pan in my blonde Reissue tank. It`s not bad! But I will change it for the TAD soon then and will test it!

My old `63 tank sounds fantastic with stock pan!

Hi Ralf! Please let us know the results, or even better post a youtube video of the test. Very Happy

We've talked about this before, but it always helps to remind people that vintage pans are very inconsistent, one can't make a generalization about them based on one or two experiences.

My fingers are crossed that these TAD's are good sounding pans. I know their tubes are pretty good.

Alright! Done!
Heres the video Ive done.

Let me know what you think about.

Now its nearly impossible to go with "Dwell" over 5 or 6. But this is good! So for recording you can give more wet drippy reverb into your sound and with band/live you got more reverb if its necessary.
I like the "new" sound! Very inspiring!

AND: Hey people! Dont waste our time with language discussions! You know when it goes funny I am always with you. Yes, some people dont grew up with english. Despite of it it`s great when they are a part of this international forum!
Thanks!

Twang cheers!

Wow, I'd been waiting for this vid! Thank you for making it. Even through the camera mic you can hear the difference. I'd love to try one of these pans, but it's 44 Euros just for the postage -- well over $100 in total to get it over here. I have to think about this one for a while...

Nice video Ralf! I'd have to agree with dannylectro that aside from the finish, it looks identical to the MOD pan. I tried the MOD and while I liked the sound, I found it difficult to dial in a reverb setting of anything less than "cavernous", so I went back to my Accutronics pan.

Thank you Ralf for the great demo.

Thanks for the great demo, nice to hear it in action! I´m getting my TAD pan tomorrow and I´m very excited! Very Happy

what a difference in the sound, i have a MOD pan myself and am very happy with it.. but i am kind of excited to see companies taking an interest and creating real good quality items for this markey:)

I wanna play just like him when i grow up...

Awesome video, Ralf! Thanks for showing how to install it. It looks pretty easy. I may have to get a new pan soon!

WOW great vid. Huge improvement. your gibbs is kind of echo sound. TAD was much smoother.

Sounds just like the MOD tank from the video. Super smooth with a huge amount of dwell

I was searching for pans today. Seems like old Accutronics pans are difficult to find and if you find them, they're sold as NOS in higher prices. The new ones are really ugly with those RCAs and I doupt if they sound like the old ones. TADs seems to be the real deal but are they different than the MOD pans or not? It's a pity to spend more bucks for the same product. Unless, I can't find MOD pans in Europe. Whatever

Every word is like an unecessary stain on silence and nothingness.

Regarding the modern ones discussed here, I've tried them all and my favorite is the original Accutronics pan that came with my 90's reissue tank. When that pan broke some years ago, I got two new Accutronics pans, neither of them sounding any good. Main problem were that they sounded too harsh and thin at higher settings. Then came the MOD pans along and we bought two of these. Sounded good but totally wrong for a traditional surf guitar sound because of the incorrect reverb tail. Also way too cavernous. Then last year we got two TAD pans. Again sounding good but somewhat wrong. However, it appeared that it needed some breaking in time to start sounding right. Today, I'm quite pleased with the TAD and think it sounds very close to how my 90's Accutronics sounded.

Klas, thanks for the info!

I'm saying this out of disappointment not "youre mistaken"

I just installed a MOD tank in a Blondeshell this evening, and there is
absolutely 0 difference in construction between it and the TAD tank other than paint job and that nifty little dymo label on it.

take a look a the TAD

then look at the MOD
