I seem to get the deer in the road look when I show off this one
but after watching Dick Dale Play Amazing Grace on You Tube
I took one of my fleet and reversed the strings and retuned the Bridge
to be Ass Backwards.
I cant say I'm playing correct but using the Mk1 ear and really just shutting the brain off its is A fun Riff Guitar and a great double picking E monster..

Anybody Else try this ?

No, I've never tried it. But he does do a hell of a job on that Amazing Grace.

Tried it once with a friend's left handed guitar and I found it very difficult. Never did it again and I don't think I'll try it ever again!

Quite a lot of left handed guitarists I've known can play with "upside down" stringing, most likely because when they first picked up a guitar it was a friend's right-handed one. I don't think I've seen a right handed player manage the same trick, though.

"most likely because when they first picked up a guitar it was a right-handed one"
That's my story and i'm sticking to it!
I've had to put right handed nuts on my lefty guitars.

Looking at the video fullscreen DD's pickups seem to be right handed staggered poles ('57-'62's i think) That would be correct for a left hand reverse string player.

I've tried it a couple times (Complete with the 16-18-20-38-48-58 string gauges ) and really liked it. It makes a lot of Dick Dale songs a lot easier to play. I'd say the string orientation did really affect the way some of the songs were written.
However, I sometimes got caught up playing nothing but my upside down strung guitar for a week or two at a time. Then I'd go play a gig with my regular strung guitar and find myself screwing up left and right! I switched the guitar back for that reason, but I'll probably end up doing it again in the future.
