I just got this one. Lots of fun, definitely worth buying.

Pretty decent. It's got a handful of great songs and a
couple of not-so-great ones.

It's definitely the only song like that on the album.

Damn! That song is too good. It's a shame... wish there was more material like that.

BTW that song should be required listening. It just doesn't get more badass than that as far as early 60's surf. And mixed in with some fuzz at that!

I think you'll also dig the song "Malibu" which has a lot of fuzz as well. I like the whole album.

Finally got a chance to listen to the new TMen album. I can't add much to what's already been said about this disc. Its just great to see these tunes produced and presented so well. I knew this would be a stellar album, and it is! Great job Tmen!

Thanks Klas. Yeah that tune is pretty sick. What kinda fuzz is it? That thing sounds wild!

Since the album was recorded in 1963, my best guess would be it's a Maestro Fuzz-Tone which I believe was available on the market already in 1962.

And speaking of the Maestro, check out this interesting excerpt from a demonstration 45:

Thanks that was pretty cool. I always wanted to try one of those out. It seems like they where trying to imitate horn instruments with this thing, haha. Davie's multi-layered fuzz tones did remind me of horn sections at times. For ex; on "Devil's Angels" for the chorus parts. Sounds so sick! Got any recommendations for some early instro fuzz?

Just got the new Secret Samurai album in the mail today, working on listening to it for about the 3rd or 4th time in just the past few hours. I'm beyond blown away, absolutely amazing cd from start to finish, and that's a rarity for me, there's usually at least one song on an album that I don't like or not a big fan of. That'd be my latest and greatest addition.

Yeah, some of Allan's leads are definitely reminiscent of horns. As for early fuzz recommendations, I don't think I can recommend anything that I haven't already recommended before (besides, there weren't that many fuzz recordings made before 1965). I assume you already have the 1963 Hal Blaine and the Young Cougars album which is loaded with early fuzz sounds and would be my #1 recommendation.

I like to think that the reverb Gods were looking down upon me yesterday, buzzing with anticipation for the convention, but in an insane instance of good fortune, I hit a mother lode of incredible album scores!!!
It was like Christmas came early!!!!
In one visit, I managed to pick up the following:
The Apemen: Surfvival of de Onbeschoftste
alt text
The Surf Trio: Safari in a Living Graveyard
The Surf Coasters: Surf Panic '95
alt text
The Looney Tunes: Beyond the Dune
Various Artists: The Estrus Records Cocktail Companion
alt text
And....the one I've been searching for...my (now previous) holy grail...(let the trumpets sound)...
The Fathoms: Fathomless
alt text
Wow, wow, wow!!! Absolutely incredible stuff!!!
