I am so fickle. Rolling Eyes
I just got an ULTEX 1.0 mm Standard pick to try out for the first time, and now it is my favourite.

If only they came in fluorescent orange or green, so I could find it more easily when I drop it on the Oriental-patterned rug.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

My usual tools for the hybrid picking I do:

The plastic thingie is a Dunlop Ultex triangle 73. For songs that involve strumming I usually use a 60 instead of a 73. I sandpaper them sharp.

For the nails I use Cover Girl. It's not just for covers.

This thread crack me up! 18 pages of posts about picks.

Yeah - do you think there's a violin forum where they're talking about bows?
Or maybe a sax forum where they're discussing which reed is best?

In any case, I prefer something heavy and I've been going back and forth between 2 different picks lately.

1) Dunlop Tortex Pitch Black Jazz (1.14mm) - great feel and response with these. I don't really get all the comments about lousy tone with a Tortex pick - I like what I get with these.

and
b) Dunlop Ultex Jazz III - nice and thick with a softer attack than the Tortex. Plus the raised lettering makes for a nice gripping surface. Solid grip is a good thing with these since the color makes it tough to find if you drop it.

There are no wrong notes, just some questionable choices.

search for 'bow'. Heck there's a thread looking for decent bows around $1500. Shocked (Geez, I could score a Jag AND an amp for that...)

Ugh...

wegen bluegrass picks, all the way. they've got the whomp of a heavy pick, but still have some give and don't hurt your hand as much with prolonged use. they also sound really bright.

basically, they were made for playing big acoustic guitars with big strings in a setting where other instruments are usually louder.

plus they're hand carved, and they have speed holes.

fender heavies although i mess with other designs every once in awhile.

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

Still liking Ultex Sharp picks.
Just got a few of the new Tortex III's Dunlop came out with, I like them for most everything but haven't used them in a gig yet.
Will post my thoughts once I do though.

don't know if it was mentioned... but BRAIN PICKS! they saved my life. the grip is amazing. I was using some tortex picks and had to really tighten up for the pick to stay put during harder picking. Got the orange 1.14 ones.

I use the over sized bass type picks myself. I've got .38 right now but would prefer something a bit closer to .50. I've got a problem with breaking lots of strings so I've gradually gone up to 12g strings while using the lightest picks possible. Trying to get used to lighter picks these days.

all about the Dunlop Tortex .90mm here. But I like the Fender California Clears when I feel like tearing up a medium guage...those things get chewed up quick though...

All about the Dunlop Tortex .73mm - the yellow ones. Have been playing them for over 15 years; we now have our own custom ones from Dunlop.

My new favorite picks are just the free ones you get from juststrings.com. Medium thickness, standard kind of pick. It works for me.

I actually like these, too! I have them stashed around various places for noodling and practice, and I find they work really well for me. I'm the moodiest human in the world when it comes to picks, though, so I can't speak to using them with any regularity.

Do you use these ? What do you think about them ? One of our guitar player - always in search of the "perfect tool" - wants some of these but doesn't know if they're ok.

I was always satisfied by the Dunlop Tortex 1.00. I also have Dunlop Gators. I just chose depending on my mood...

I think Tortex lasts longer than Moshay. I've cracked a couple Moshay picks. I've never even worn down a tortex, bass playing friends have though.

Tortex sounds better to me as well. Nylon certainly has its purposes. I like nylon for acoustic, but I like tortex for electric. Tortex is quicker as well.

Dunlop Nylon 1.0mm black is all I use these days. They are absolutely the perfect pick for me.
