Hello erebody...
So I bought a '65 Fender Twin Reverb RI for the jaw dropping price of $550 (thanks for the lead Matt22) and I have some questions to all of you familiar with tube amps as this is my 1st one ever.
-
Ok so..I treat this thing as if its made out of glass and balsa wood...how durable are these things? Im not looking to do back flips on it but just moving it around from car to jam space is enough to give one agida when I think its going to be damaged somehow..
-
I see to connect a 2X12 cab I would need to change out my 8ohm speakers to 4ohm and make sure the cab has 4ohm speakers too making a 16 ohm load right? So is it even worth it to do something like that? Plus, what is the best 4ohm speakers I should put in there if I was to replace them?
another thing is I have 2 Celestians in my Cyber Twin and Im wondering if those are better than the 2 Jensens I have in my '65 twin now...any thoughts??
Thanks in advance...Im super stoked about this amp

You can be fairly rough with these amps, they can take it. You could throw it down a flight of stairs and it would probably still work fine, so I wouldn't worry about just normal moving it around.
You can connect an 8 ohm speaker, it just won't be as loud, just never connect a lower ohm speaker than the amp puts out ( such as a 2 ohm in this case). Still, Fenders can handle impedence mis-matches. Not sure why you would want to add an extra speaker cab though, since twins are obscenely loud as is.
The modern Jensens are pretty good re-issues of the originals ( which were cheapo speakers in the first place. Fender always used the cheapest available speakers. The Celestions would probably break up a lot quicker.
Enjoy your amp, great price by the way!

Well the Jensens always worked great in any Fender Amp I ever had...so maybe stick w/em'...they should be all you will need. (I have 5 amps now, 4 Jensen equipped). 44 years ago, my Princeton Reverb "rolled" down a flight of stairs" (at a party)....no problems at all. (I wouldn't recommend it though...). Even though (through the years) I usually found it "necessary" to hook some kind of extension speaker to the "Ext. Spkr." jack, (w/varying results). About 3 years ago, my GREAT amp tech (Lars) told me "Don't ever bother hooking up ANY ext speakers w/Fender's". This may sound harsh, but my original question for him was "Why does the volume get lower when I hook up Ext. Spkr's" ? He went on to explain (in great length) why I should just "leave well enough alone", and I can't remember all the specifics...but I took his advice. One of his "specialties" is re-hand wiring any and ALL amplifiers (especially Fender's) adding "new sounds & tricks" (if you want em') & doing it affordably and VERY efficiently ! (He "restored" my Ampeg Gemini 1 to "stock", and it just sings) ! You will probably be able to "run with your Twin" just the way it is and Good Luck with it !!

Awesome...Thanks you guys for the info..Im glad I asked..I forgot its ok to go over in terms of the impedance though going under is very bad as under powering speakers is a nice way to kill them..
So after reading both of these posts I think I will stick with it the way it is and throw money at a guitar now..I scored my dream amp...now to get that guitar.

I think you may be confused with regards to impedence matching. Your TRRI has 2-8 ohm speakers wired parallel for a 4 ohm load which matches the impedence of the output transformer. The extension speaker jack is also wire in parallel, so connecting a 4 ohm extension cab will give you a 4 ohm load-a 100% mismatch. Vintage Fenders could handle the mismatch-I don't know about the reissues.
You can replace your speakers with 16 ohm speakers (easier to find than 4 ohm) and wire everything parallel. You will have an 8 ohm load in both the Twin Reverb and the extension speaker. With both connected, the load is 4 ohms. If you just run the internal speakers the amp will operate less efficiently, but you probably won't notice. You've got a great amp!

Mr. Champagne: Congrats on a real nice amp at a nice price! However, I would not suggest, as a previous poster did, that this amp is a bullet-proof as the Twin it is a reissue of...the original was "point-to-point" wired, a much more robust construction scheme than the reissues, which use printed-circuits internally.
No I wouldn't treat it as if it were made of glass and balsa wood...well, I would just taking care of it...but just realize it is a piece of modern electronic equipment that can get muffed up without some realistic care.
Yeah, she's heavy as hell!
Oh, and you might want to get some hearing protection if you are regularly playing adjacent to her...

Owning an old Blackface Twin, I can tell you that in answer to number 1 - warm your back and knees up first before lifting, and consider keeping a chiropractor's number on speed dial They are strong but not 'unburstable'. And that price in Australia one can only dream of
I don't have an answer to 2. except buy a Deluxe Reverb if the Twin's too much! Jensens are fine I would think.
