Just acquired a 1964 Fender Deluxe Reverb. Sweet sounding amp and mostly original--I think. Breaks up starting around 5-6, no buzzing, and all things work: reverb, trem. Surprisingly loud for a 20 watt amp. Pots on the normal channel are a little scratchy, so I'll have to look into that. Has the correct FEI faceplate and back-plate.

I "think" it's mostly original except the speaker is either a 1965 or 1975 Oxford, and the seller advised a 'cap' job was done about 8--10 years ago.
All four transformers seem to check out as Schumaker 1964 [606-4...]. Pots are Stackpole. Chassis Serial number checks out as 1964. Tube Chart says Circuit 763, with print stamp "NG" which should be "1964, July." Still hase the two prong electric cord, in good shape.
Other than the obvious cap job in the doghouse, I'm not sure if there are any other repairs or mods to the electronics. I'm hoping some of the vintage amp experts here might take a look and advise.

Power tubes are Westinghouse and two RCA 6V6 GT's. The RCA's are a little smokey looking, but the amp works great. Pre-amps are a mixed bag of Sylvania, RCA, Mallard, Fender and STS.
Sadly, I had to part with my Gomez G-Reverb to help fund this purchase. Luckily, it's gone to a fellow SG101'er. I'm now down to two amps--this DR and a '62 Bandy.
Any comments or advice appreciated.

Congratulations, Mike! Great amp! I've got a '63 Deluxe that I bought for $100.00 back in '68 or '69. Talk about reliable.....in all these years it's been in the shop just once: for a cap job. Killer tone.

That's an AWESOME amp, I am so jealous !!
Apart from the speaker, and the newer electrolytic caps and the white ceramic resistors, that surely needed to be replaced, everything else seems to be original inside there
A beauty like that, here in Italy, is worth around 2500 euro: I can only dream about it !!!!!!!

Thanks for the kind comments. I love this DR, and at low noodling volumes, it has plenty of headroom. I'm a sucker for the vintage stuff--had to sell my Gomez G-Reverb in order to finance this DR. But it went to a SG101'er so I'm hoping it will be put to good use.
RotNRobby--as for the Gomez tone ring--it got sold, too, along with the '64 Bandmaster I restored. I almost pulled the trigger on your Showman listed on SG101 a while back, but I don't play out so I couldn't resist the chance at at vintage Deluxe Reverb. This thing sounds so good.

Beautiful amp! Looks good inside apart from normal maintenance items. E'lytics as mentioned (the silver caps on the board) look replaced. They left the blue molded caps in - that's good. One cap in the trem circuit looks replaced - middle of board, 2 ceramic discs and what looks like an orange drop (that would be the replaced one). The bias circuit looks like it was recapped also - the small board next to the pilot light. You should change out the 2 prong cord for a proper grounded one, but otherwise you're good to go. Have fun with it!

I've thought about buying the Amp Preserver--Weber also used to make a "Browner" but I haven't seen one offered in awhile. I've "heard" they make a difference in tone and are easier on the old amps, but some reputable amp techs have told me using one is not really necessary since even the vintage Fender amps can handle the extra line voltage. Don't know who to believe or trust on that issue. I would love to hear from anyone here who has one.
But I am assuming the Amp Preserver doesn't address or eliminate the need for the 3 prong converstion?
