i know a lot of people tweak their sound ever now and then, but overall how much do you like your sound and how often do you need to change it up a little bit?
also, if you could describe your ideal sound or tell what you need to fix about it that would be cool.
if there is an option that you would like on the poll, ill put it up there for ya. have at it!

Somedays I love t he way it (me) sounds. Other days everything sounds off.
Most of my gear is top notch, So it just must be my feelings at that specific time playing.
However, I do need to upgrade t he tubes in my RI Tank. That might make a nice subtle difference.

these days, my "tone" seems to have a lot more to do with my mental/physical abilities then it has to do with my gear.
so, most days, it seems that I am "on", but every now and then i'm definately "off".
for the most part, my "tone" seems pretty consistant...

During the couple months of hiatus that The Lava Rats took at the end of 2006, I was able to spend a lot of time doing something I usually don't get much of a chance to do during time when the band is in "full swing" - I practiced on my own, and spend a good amount of that time fine-tuning my tone.
As a result, I found the little intricacies of my playing became much more consistent, and I was able to dial in both my amp and my pedals accordingly. While I will to need to spend a little more time adjusting for the various guitars I'll be using on the album, I am more than happy with my live tone.

I have on and off days too, which I'm sure has everything to do with me and nothing with gear.
I also have the problem of enjoying a few different tones a lot, so I'm never aimed in only one direction. Right now, I'm in love with the lead guitar tone on Hypnotic IV's Go Baby Go. If I could get that tone without shelling out $3K for a Mosrite and a Showman, and without cranking a Showman to 10 (where would I do that?), I'd be all over it.
I voted "still needs tweaking" (ad infinitum...)

I guess I'm not. I'm not really seeking out "that tone", but I"m adding gear and I like having other tones. Its hard to find a nice balance between the amazing dull thud I can get out of my guitar and something a little more melodic/ high in pitch.

I voted - I hate it! A new amp is the only solution for me. - but only 'cause I won't be getting my Peavey Classic 50/410 combo as soon as I'd planned, and I'm stuck with my 25W solid state Peavey TransTube 258 EFX combo. But of course y'all should know I'm joking...I mean, my vote does run counter to my post in which I sung praises about the TransTube EFX line of Peavey combo amps. Once I have the Peavey Classic 50/410 combo, my sound will very nearly be there, save for a few well selected stomp boxes, and an outboard Fender Reverb tank.
If, a year or so down the line, I decide to try for something different/tweak my sound a bit, I'll go shopping for something along the lines of maybe a Vox AC30212 combo, or any number of the Fender combos.

ditto here. somedays i like the way i sound, somedays i just can't find what i'm looking for. i know a lot of it is in how one plays because i've got good equipment also. i did just get replacement tubes for my reverb but haven't tried them out yet. i want more drip.

I like my sound, but I also like the sounds I hear here on the demos and comp tracks. Other bands always seem to turn my head a little when I hear a new sound. So I voted that I like my sound, but it still needs some tweeking. At least for now.

Wish I could vote twice. I'm pretty happy with my tone when I get to play through my amp. More often I play through a modeller and headphones and my tone is just ok.

I voted for "my sound's OK, but needs tweaking." But, I'm not one to do much tweaking. In fact, I'm annoyed by constant messing with knobs, re-tuning, and other such tweaking.
One guy I knew was always bragging about having perfect pitch. After he bragged up his repertoire, I invited him to one and only one jam session. He spent 90% of his time tuning and farting with knobs. It showed in his playing abilities, or lack of (no sense of time.) He also felt compelled point out my tonal and equipmental deficiencies. JUST PLAY THE DAMNED THING!....I wanted to yell.

well in case you all were wondering about me...i like my sound, and it does need tweaking every so often, but i think the main thingi need is a new guitar. not that i dont like my guitars, but i think the main thing i seem to be missing in my sound can only be found by getting a jag.

I make the best out of what I can afford, but I found out I´m picky about my tone mostly when I´m rehearsing, I´m almost always cool about it at gigs. Like someone already said, it´s got a lot more to do with how I´m feeling at the time. And the old story goes: sometimes you feel that your playing was crap, but the people at the audience can´t really tell the difference.
Tone-wise, my ambition in the not-too-distant future is to fix my reverb tank and get me a nice 50w all tube amp (either combo or head + cabinet)

My sound is ok but need improvement. Main problems - 1) problem with loud enough performing at my place, 2) bad gear at other places where i play...
also i need to upgrade my RI tank...

I chose 'not too picky'. I'm still writing stuff and trying to find time to jam/practice with my pal Matt, so I don't really think about it much. Once I get the gear I want and we're ready to start recording, I'll concentrate more on tone. The first step really will be to get the Showman up and running.

Overall, 99% of the time, I think I'm nailing the tone I want. But then I hear Mack, the lead guitarist of "Outer Wave" and his tone is so awesome, I just stand there with my jaw dropping to the floor!

I'm happy with my guitar tone now. I think I've got the best amp, tank and guitar I can get. When the Aquanauts recorded our first "album" looking back I hated the sound I got. So I think I sound better now.
My dissatisfaction is in the playing department and creatively getting the sound from my equipment because of a handicap of my own playing, whether it be brought on from never being able to practice anymore or even when I did practice all the time I'd still get frustrated by not being able to play something in my head.
