I actually started learning bass before learning guitar, so I'm a bit on the opposite end of the spectrum, with my overall guitar tone tending to be "a bit" bass heavy. Granted I only play to the walls, so far, and I've intended since I joined SG101 (6 years ago) to get my originals recorded, but I've kept things fairly simple on the bass lines. I find myself using a lot of straight 8s and 4-squares, and on occasion some walking bass...12 bar blues could work, but I've yet to create anything (that I know of) to fit. —Fast Cars & Loud Guitars! |

Wags had a great point, but the only thing he ever pointed at was kids, and the only thing he could retrieve was a ball. To try to keep on topic ( |

Daisy was the role model for Doug in Up. "Squirrel!" The dog must have ADHD. Should have named the stray dog who found us Houdini. So far she's chewed through a leash, a harness collar. almost chewed through her yard tether and has tricked my daughter into letting go of the leash twice. It's been two weeks since the dog showed up and I'm so worn out by the dog and my daughter that I'm too tired to play when I have any time (which is between 10 PM and 6 AM. The bass I've chosen is the (used) Squier Vintage Modified J-Basss in Natural Maple, shown here: http://www.squierguitars.com/products/popup.php?root_dir=&web_root=&img=prod_images/basses/0326702521_xl.jpg&name=Vintage+Modified+Jazz+Bass%26reg%3B&node0=1 There was no opportunity to get a P-Bass from the series. It's a nice bass and probably the only bass I'll ever need unless I switch to bass full time. I haven't picked a fuzz pedal yet, but I need an amp first. There's a used 30-watt Peavy bass amp that fits my budget in the guitar store right now. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

The Natural Maple is beautiful. What amp is that? You mean the Peavey Classic 30? You're getting off cheaply. Keep the dog away from your staps, cases and music. I remember harnesses didn't work with Wags either. I think we ended up with a metal collar made of some kind of chain link. It has been a few years. |

The amp is a Peavey Minx 110 bass amp. It has 30 Watts RMS into 8 ohms with DDT compression. It is a well-reviewed little amp and the J-Bass sounds great through it. It's fine for me to learn bass on and for practice. The Squier Vintage Modified J-Bass is even prettier in person than the beauty shots on the Squier Website. This one has a tinted birds-eye maple neck that's slick as greased glass and gorgeous. There's a knot hole beauty mark centered in the left horn that is very distinctive. The overall finish is way too nice not to be a Fender J-Bass. I played it a while today in the store (I still have to finish paying off the layaway) and it has a vintage Motown bass sound that I like a lot. I'm real glad I didn't settle for an Austin, Starcaster or similar bargain bass. I'm actually surprised at how quickly some old bass lines from 50's oldies came back to me. So, how does the bass part for Rumble go? And, yeah. If I could get a Peavey Classic 30 that worked for under a hundred bucks, THAT would be a bargain. —This is Noel.
