Some sad news...Oliver Jesperson, aka Jess Oliver, the creator of the Ampeg B-15 bass amp passed away yesterday.

Jess may not be overly familiar to guitar players but we older bass guys know who he is. The Ampeg B-15 was the "studio standard" bass amplifier for several years and those amps are highly collectible.

Up until recently he was restoring old B-15's for customers. He will be missed.

The Hula Hounds (1996-2000)
The X-Rays (1997-2004)
The Surge! (2004, 2011-2012)
Various non-surf bands that actually made money
(1978-1990)

Hey Woody, I knew who he was. My dad was the Cleveland Electronics (aka Cleatron) Speaker rep. Ampeq used a lot of Cletron speakers in the late-mid sixties. They also used the original Cletron 18" speaker in the B-18N amps.

Those were Cletron C12NR (special build) speakers for Ampeq that you and I were "admiring" in my basement the other night.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

I was introduced to Jess by mutual friend and amp guru Dennis Kager. A legend and a fine gentleman. RIP.
