I just got an Aqua Puss a couple weeks ago. I did a ton of research and it was between the AP and the MXR Carbon Copy. Some background: My pal Mike who played in the HulaHounds with me back in the day was a pedal freak and had one of the original pre-Dunlop AP's. I always loved it's warm sound. I was using a '70's E-H Memory Man that sounded almost exactly like an old Echoplex but it has a noticeable volume drop when engaged. I later used a Boss DD-3 which was OK for slapback but it has the digital sterility that was missing from the Memory Man. I was re-recording some lead tracks for the upcoming Mariners CD and wanted a good analog delay. To make a long story short, I ended up with a new Aqua Puss and couldn't be more pleased. It is analog-warm and does exactly what I want a delay to do. It also provides some pretty weird (in a good way) sound effects when the knobs are tweaked. The AP has a max 300ms delay while the Carbon Copy goes to 600ms if that matters to you. Both pedals are Dunlop products and are great pedals. It doesn't quite capture that Echoplex sound like the old Memory Man but on tape the AP sounds awesome. Frankly, for stage use IMO the analog nuances of this pedal aren't going to make that much difference out front as compared to any other good delay pedal. Thanks Woody. I like what I hear so far. I don't use delay very often but it ids part of my effects chain on a few songs. I am also interested in utilizing it's self-oscillating ability. At the same time, I am also noticing that the Memory Boy pedal offers up quite a few more options for the same price....decisions, decisions... —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. I have been demoing these through youtube. Between the Aqua-puss and the Boss DM-2, I would say that, in my opinion, the Aqua-puss had a much warmer tone. The delays on the DM-2 were so crisp that it almost sounds like a digital delay to me. Also, the Aqua-puss is a true bypass pedal, while the boss pedal is not. —THE KBK ... If you're going for a quick slapback, it's hard to beat the AP reissue. I've owned both it and the Carbon Copy, and I drastically prefer the AP... It's warm but the repeats are nice and crisp, making the CC sound dark and murky by comparison. The only short-time analog delay I like better is the Malekko Ekko 300B, which isn't in production anymore and is getting pretty pricey on the used market. Unless you abso-posi-lutely need 600ms of delay time, pick up an Aqua Puss and go to town! — |

I had some time to tinker with my new pedal last night. I have to say that I am more than satisfied. It has such a warm sound and is quite versitile even within it's own limitations. Now I just need to find the sweet spots that fit the songs I use delay on, as it's controls respond completely different than the Ibanez Echo Machine that I was previously using. —THE KBK ...
