Permalink 1x15"/2x10" Bass Cabinet

New Topic

Has anybody heard of a bass cabinet with a 15" speaker and two 10" speakers in a single cabinet?
The 15" on the bottom and then the two 10s" up top.

I'm contemplating whether this contraption would be worth tracking down or building up? Can anybody think of a company that has made/make them, or any reasons why this would be ill advised?

I've always loved the mixture of 15 and 10s. Currently I have a 1x15" cabinet and a 4x10" cabinet I run together for upright bass. But its a bit much for bass guitar and I'd like to do some consolidation.

That's a good configuration for bass, but I don't think I've ever seen a 1x15 with 2x10s in a single cabinet (of course that doesn't mean it doesn't exist). I have seen a lot of players who have a 2x10 cab on top of a 1x15 cab (SWR, GK, Hartke, etc). Genz Benz does make a cabinet that has 1x12 and 2x8s in a single enclosure - I personally don't have experience with that cabinet but their bass products do kick some serious butt!

best bet is separate cabs...easier to handle...many good makes...or got to www.lopoline.com and build-your-own...

Yeah, I've emailed lopoline. We're discussing a design.

if you are using a crossover system or bi-amp setup to separate highs and lows 2x10" and 1x15" should sound great...

SWR makes their highly acclaimed "Triad" cabinet... 1x15" 1x10" and a horn with a crossover...you might check that one out...

Hey I happen to have one of those Triad cabs in my truck right now, I don't even play bass.

In regards to wiring a 3-speaker cabinet what is best?
I'm dealing with a 4 ohm amplifier, so thats what I'm shooting for.

Any reasons why I shouldn't run either of these combinations????

Option 1
2- 16 ohm speakers and 1- 8 ohm speaker all run in parallel= 4 ohms?

AND/OR option Number 2

2 - 4 ohm speakers in series (8 ohms)
then wired in parallel with an 8 ohm speaker = 4 ohms?

I actually have a line on the appropriate speakers in scenario 1, so I'm hoping that works.....

Personally, I'd go with the parallel setup (or a series/parallel setup).
but it's really up to your preference.

This site seemed to have helpful speaker wiring models/modules:
