Hi All. After my concerns about copyright and youtube in one of my recent posts I thought I would put one of my own compositions up in an attempt to try and give something back. Its not really a surf tune as such but is played on a Jag through a Fender Priceton with an FRV -1 pedal so it has that "vibe" if you like. For added effect ive called it Ocean Turquoise (really to reflect my calming mood during times of trouble). Anyway, the tone isnt exactly what i want and it could do with polishing but im wondering if anybody would have a go at some sort of backing track to go with it? I recently bought ez drummer but didnt realise i need a daw and cannot afford one for some time. All comments very welcome especially the critical ones, thats where we learn the most important lessons i feel. Cheers

Nice job, I think it shows promise. Just needs more finesse.
I bet it will develop better when it gets filled in with other instruments.
oh yeah, needs more reverb!

Nice tune - definitely seems worthy of further development! EZ-Drummer is a good product for the money (I use it and other software drum samplers all the time for quickly fleshing out ideas), but if you don't have a DAW then you may want to consider using sampled drum loops for your backing tracks.
Quick question: what strings are you using on your Jag?

Very melodic, and nice guitar work! I don't have backing tracks, but I can offer you an MP3 of 2 minutes 50 seconds of standard surf beat. PM me if you'd like me to email it to you.

Thanks for the comments. The strings are d'adario flat 10s. Ive just turned the mix up on the reverb and its definately better. Listening back, it certainly does need more finesse but the presence of the camcorder robs me of what little finesse i have. Can someone tell me a bit more about loops. Not sure what they are or how i could use them. Ive got 2 more tunes that need some sort of backing. Cheers

You can download and trial Reaper for free. If you decide that you like it and are going to continue using it, a non-commercial licence is very cheap ($40). I don't use it myself, but those that do swear by it. Cheapest way to get a fully featured DAW, I reckon.

Thanks django, i downloaded Reaper and easily dragged grooves from ezdrummer into Reaper but havent yet got any volume from it. Ah well, typical. A bit of setting up required i guess but it looks like just what im after. cheers
