I'm stoked! I have home court advantage - surf show in my home town! First surf in Menlo Park since CHUM (also at BBC), unless I missed something.

Finally the big day is almost here - if you make it to the Surf Battle in Menlo Park tomorrow (Saturday May 14), please find "Cousin Mary" and say hello. Doors open at noon, music starts at 1pm and goes to 5pm (Pacific).

Hate to not be there in person, but between these
teasers and the plans to stream live video, I really
gotta find/make time to catch the sets tomorrow!

You'll be pleasantly disappointed tomorrow with the Deadbeats cause we haven't even practiced in a month to be exact. Haha, but we'll see how it goes.

Not quite like being in Menlo Park, but the video broadcast was quite good!

Nice chitting the chat w/ Brian, Jeff/BTD in IRC. A little surprised (bummed? disappointed?) there weren't more folks in IRC - sounded like a lot of streaming going on according to the broadcast. Oh well. Never the less...

Thanks KFJC for broadcasting(!!!)

Thanks Ferenc for pulling it all together, hosting/MC'ing (,and playing!) - what an excellent afternoon of surf(!!!)

yeah,
thanks to Ferenc, KFJC, and to all of the bands.
I missed a bit.
but caught from the tail end of Frankie to the end.

What a day! Big enthusiastic crowd filled the British Bankers Club almost literally to the rafters. So glad so many people showed up and so grateful for the support of the musicians and for Ferenc's hard work in putting the show together. A shout out to the SG101 folks who were watching the video online.

Here are the air checks - they overlap a bit. Went from 1pm to approx. 5:30pm.

I am not sure - I'm not good at estimating - at least 200.... I'll hear paid admission numbers later this week, and there were at least 50 musicians and 10-20 KFJC staffers there, too

First, a big thank you to Ferenc and the staff at KFJC for putting together such an incredible show at the British Bankers Club on Saturday afternoon, 16 bands in 4 hours, WOW !!. The BBC was totally packed with surf music fans, as the second floor balcony and the stairs were standing room only, and the main floor was shoulder-to-shoulder. The Reefriders had a great time, with our short, powerful, four song, 12 minute set and our brand new CD release, it couldn’t have been more rewarding. All of the bands were great, and there were a few really standout moments. An official KFJC Surf Battle Scorecard was distributed to everyone that included all 16 bands, with the selection criteria being Awesome, Superior, Breathtaking and Stupendous…..all-in-all, I think the music fans really won, those listening to the live fees around the globe as well as the big crowd at the BBC. While I generally play through vintage Fender equipment (65 blackface Fender showman), it was great playing through a blonde 62 Fender Showman, as the tone was absolutely suburb (thanks Mel !!). The Reefriders had a busy day, as our drummer, Glen James Campbell also sat in on drums for the Mighty Surf Lords from Reno during their set, Bud loaned his PA system for the show, and I was interviewed during the live feed by KFJC’s Cousin Mary and had a chance to talk about the new record, and she played a number of new songs from the record throughout the day, so the Reefriders were very involved in the day’s festivities….and a big thanks to our loyal fans who came out to support the show. I’m looking forward to seeing some photos and video clips from the show. It really was a great afternoon of solid instrumental tunes from some of the best in the business, and everybody stepped up their game !!! Thanks Ferenc for the invitation and we were very glad to be part of all the excitement.

We had a great time too! You always feel a little nervous being the new guys in town, but everyone really went out of their way to say hello and make us feel welcome. As everyone else has already noted, Ferenc was exceedingly patient and generous. He even wore our sticker on his hat during the Frankie & the Pool Boys set. So much fun!
