Aren't most cables? Especially if they appear like they are 'marketed'.

The longest lasting cables I've ever bought are the cheapest out of package cables they sell at Guitar Center. I still have the originals cables I bought when I was learning guitar. They last forever, and I've gigged with them.

I have one of those Fender Koil Kables. What don't you like about it?

It´s noisy, and when you step on it or touch it makes a lot of niose too...the VOX coil cable is a lot better

i never really got the whole coil cable thing, what's the attraction supposed to be anyways?

i had one once and it was pretty much just trying to wrap around my legs the whole time

I have one, its not noisy for me, and I kind of like the noise it makes when you strike it, atleast for me, it makes the reverb crash Big Grin

as for attraction... for me atleast Dr Lehos uses one, so I wanted one too haha

yeah i bought it for the same reason, cause garret had em haha but they do suck and yes bigpapu the vox ones are waaay better, i cant afford em right now but like jake said, those guitar center cables are pretty damn good, and cheap and they have a lifetime warranty too! they start crapping out on you, youu take it back and u get a new one, ive only had to do it once.

My straight cables were always tying themselves in knots or loops: the coil cables solve that, take up less space, and stretch out when you walk around. I've been using three of the Vox type for the last couple of years, and they've been great.

Yeah, I'll agree. When mine drags across the carpet, I can hear static.

I have a fender coil cable. Serves me fine, and I stomp the hell out of it live. Straight cables never stay straight on me and aesthetically, coil is just more fun the way I see it.

Vox and Fulltone coil cables are better quality and someday I'll upgrade, but not until my fender cable up and dies.

The guitar center cables are a good route. Only cables I'd advise against are Monster Cables. Their jacks are actually slightly bigger than a 1/4", so over time the cable stretches your jack out and makes it so only Monster cables fit in your jacks. Therefore creating the, "Only Monster Cables work for me, all other cables are weak in comparison." When really Monster just effed you over and became proprietary to your gear.

Consider me a skeptic, but I do not buy this idea. Do you have evidence of this? The spring (tip) contact of the female jack seems like it would be unaffected by these very slight differences in diameter. Even when you insert a properly-sized 1/4-inch plug, you deform the spring quite a bit; it is what holds the plug in the jack.

And, rather than throwing away your gear, or buying all Monster Cable, why not just bend the spring contact back a bit to increase the tension?

I would never advocate throwing gear away, and like you said, you can just bend it back a bit.

Maybe it is hearsay, but when I used to be a sleazy guitar center salesmen customers came in with this issue all the time. They would use Monster Cables for years, and then when they tried other cables, or tested out their guitar on an amp at the store with one of our cables, their jack was all loosey goosey. And yes, we would open it up and bend it tighter for them. My store manager was the one who put the buzz in my ear that Monster did it intentionally. Maybe he's a crackpot. But its enough for me to mistrust Monster when there are more affordable cables sold right beside them.

Only Fender cables I've ever used are short patch cables. I've always been leery of them because about every reviews section I've seen has more negative comments than positive

You seem to be approaching this rationally. Hrm...now I am compelled to find the truth. I will explore the Internet in search of this problem. If I am not back in a week, save yourself, leave without me.

I can't leave. I've got nowhere to go!

Haha, fair enough.

I've never sat down and measured a monster cable. Perhaps I should....but I don't have any monster cables.

Monster sells HDMI cables for over $100 when there is no difference in quality possible between a $2 Amazon HDMI cable and a $100 Monster HDMI cable.

So... I wouldn't be surprised.

i mostly use planet waves cables, the ones with the compression springs, people have always told me that the springs ruin your jacks with effect described with the monster cables,,, i think this is mostly hooey because every time i use regular cables i have no issues, i think keeping the clip in the jack bent tight is the real issue here

even if monster cable plugs are bigger than regular, how is that a bad thing if they still fit in the jack? id think that having a plug rattle around less would actually cause less wear and tear

also if you jack is really messed up, it costs $2 and 10 minutes with a soldering iron to replace it, what the big deal?
