I've been messing around with my Crate Powerblock ($60.00 at a pawn shop) and I'm impressed. Tomorrow I'm going to give it a shot on a gig through an open-backed Mesa 1 X 12 cab with an EVM 12-L. I gave it a pretty good workout in my music room, and I like it.
I'll run a Boss ME-70 and a '63 RI reverb tank in front of it. I've been using a Carvin X-60 1 X 12 combo on this gig, but it's so damned heavy with an EV. I'll let you know how it does.

I'm fond of setting mine with the gain about halfway, high halfway, mid three quarters up, and bass halfway and master depending on volume needs. It's a great lil amp and a steal at $60. I always throw it in the car when I play a gig just in case.

Your recommendation is what convinced me to buy it Danny. Thanks. My settings are the same as yours except the "low". The P-90's in my Reverend are pretty dark (listen to the difference between it and Dicks Jazzmaster on Tailspin from last years Jam). I set my Reverb tank at 5/5/5.

So how did that Powerblock work for you? I've got one that I keep in the car at gigs too. I've never really got a really great sound out of it, but it would do in a pinch. Maybe my ears are just Showman spoiled.

The 'block worked EXTREMELY well, Rick! I'm "Showman Spoiled" too, although most gigs are at low volume with a smaller (Carvin X-60) amp. We played outdoors, and Sunday, the crowd was HUGE (100,000+) for the Street Fair, so I wanted some extra ooomph. I set the controls like Danny suggested, the backed off the Bass (Low) to about 11:00. I thought it sounded great, and so did my partner John. A couple of guitar playing buddies who came by Sunday liked it, and Junior Watson, who followed us Sunday, caught our last set-which was almost all Surf/Instro, and said it sounded great.
BTW, the sound I REALLY liked was my Fender Stratocaster XII with a little compression and the reverb backed off a tad (3/3/5). Byrds in Flyte!

I see the Power Block is 8 ohms mono and 4 ohms stereo. Will it work safely going in to a Bandmaster 4 ohm speaker cabinet using one of the 4 ohm stereo output jacks?

I've run it into my 4ohm bandmaster cab through the mono jack and no problems yet.
