Only 4 weeks from now! What a good excuse to visit Northern California if you are not already here....

OK, so this show runs til 5:00 PM and apparently you can't fly out in my direction after 4:30 PM. Five airports flying planes and not one going my way. So, my question is, with all the surf bands in town worn out, is there anything else musical doing that evening (May 14) in the Bay Area?

16 bands in 5 hours?

Radio Free Bakersfield--60 Minutes of TWANG, CRUNCH, OOMPH.

Since the schedule says actual playing time is from 1-5 it sounds like it might be a bit like one of those flipcard animations, though in some cases I think the difference between two bands may involve the guitarists switching places. Still, even the chance of smelling 16 surf bands for 4 hours sounds pretty good in the more disencoasted regions of the remote desert interior.

So, I take it that most of the parts of California north of San Francisco are not really counted as California? Sort of Oregon Lite?

Each band gets about 3 songs, using the same backline allows quick personnel switching.

Gee, I never thought about this before. LA is Southern California, San Luis Obispo is the central coast, and SF is Northern California - that does leave most of the northern part of the state. I guess everything north of SF is Northern California, too.

Meanwhile, I would say this is a fun event even if it didn't have a KFJC component. Knowing what I know from attending the last one, I think that it is worth traveling to see. But if you cannot be there, we will have audio and video simulcasts.

Coz

I was born in Redding, CA. REAL NORCAL. Hellish summers and rodeos. There are some beautiful mountains up there....and California's most profitable cash crop. Big Razz

Science friction burns my fingers.

I have a Map of California,
and San Jose is at the very Top of the So. Cal. half,
and at the Very Bottom of the Nor. Cal. half.
So SF is barely Nor. Cal.

Glad to hear you are consulting a map, BTD - hope to see you there!

KFJC 89.7FM Tuesday 6-7PM (Pacific) - "From the Vault" with DJ "Hackers Muse" showcases music that has been recorded live at KFJC events - this show will feature music from the 2006 Surf Battle.

89.7FM or click on Netcast at kfjc.org or find KFJC under Radio on iTunes.

Just a hint of the fun coming up on Saturday May 14!

I hope everyone around the world is aware that there will be an audio and video simulcast of the Surf Battle on http://www.kfjc.org You need to download a piece of software to view the video, so go get it now before the show starts. Find LIVE CAM on the right side of the page and "click for more info" to get the software to view the video.
Last time we did the KFJC Surf Battle, SG101ers gathered in the IRC to comment on the show. I understand there were technical difficulties, but hopefully everything will go smoothly this time.

That kind of worried me, until I read that the software they want you to download is VLC. Ok, no problem. That's a very popular open source video / music player / swiss army knife.

Yes, there were a bunch of us in IRC last year, and it more or less worked very well. I will definitely try to be in IRC for most or all of the big event (I really wish I could be there in person).

VLC for Mac installed! Hope to be able to tune in for some (most? all!?) of this Saturday's event. Really stoked this has been setup!

Here's to no technical gremlins. No Whammies! No Whammies! No Whammies!

Thanks Cuz! Just got a chance to listen to this (along with the PDM 2006 BotB "from the vault" you kindly brought our attention to a while back.)

Up next... The Deadbeats KALX Live set from a few months back.

Hate to not be there in person, but between these teasers and the plans to stream live video, I really gotta find/make time to catch the sets tomorrow!
