What would be a great price for this? This is a great idea, instead of lugging around my Fender twin reverb to jam in Long Island all the time.

I run the Powerblock through two Celestion 12" speakers: this setup works well for surf guitar+ reverb tank...also works well for keyboard...or even as a medium-volume bass practice amp. |

I paid more than $100 but less than $200, I wouldn't say it was a great deal. I've been keeping my eye open for a local one for some time so when this came up on Craigslist I convinced myself that I had to have it. |

I think I paid $99 at musician's friend for the Powerblock two years ago: I use the 2x12" Celestion cab for all sorts of musical activities... |

I'm using mine with an open-backed Mesa 1 X 12 with an EVM 12-L. Great sound; small package-and LOUD! Wouldn't have considered it but for the rave reviews here on SG-101. The ZT Lunchbox amp takes the convenience and power of the Powerblock a step further by including a speaker with its 120 watt RMS ("200 watt") amp. Sometimes I connect an external speaker and leave them both on or shut off the internal speaker. While I really like my Powerblock and have used it for some concerts, I am a bit sceptical about the Lunchbox because of the small speaker and the simple tone control. Do you have any recordings as examples? —Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin) |

So my Powerblock will arrive today (hopefully). I have some questions though. In mono mode the amp has an impedance of 8ohms and 4ohms in stereo. Power is rated with 150W in mono and 75W in stereo on each side.
Assuming in both cases that I do not crank it to 11 and play at a moderate volume. Ivan mentioned that he wouldn't plug it into the JBL D130F cab as this might blow the speaker. I really do not play that loud (my BF Bassman is always around 3.5). Thanks guys! —Last edited: Feb 05, 2015 03:00:42 |

Don't power anything lower than 8 ohms in bridge (mono). The heat from the high currents will trip the protection circuit at an inconvenient moment or even fry the output stage. If you use the JBL, take care not to open up all the way because the speaker can't dissipate that much power for more than a few seconds. Better get another 4 ohm cab and run it in stereo (or double mono). |

I also keep a Crate Power Block in the trunk for the case that the ol' Fender dies on me mid-gig. I worry that it will struggle to get to the proper volume when that time comes. Hence, I'm thinking about about a Quilter Tone Block. I know it will power a large cabinet most effectively - and it's smaller and lighter in weight. Anyone here have an opinion about relative performance of Eminence Swamp Thing in open (e.g. combo) cab vs. closed back? I read from badger that they have a huge low end which might indicate closed. — |
