Permalink Tokai Stratocaster - SOLD

New Topic

Selling my MIJ Tokai TST-62 Vintage Series Stratocaster. If you’re looking for a vintage Strat spec and tone, this’ll do it. Bite, quack, spank, it’s all in here, wrapped up with Japanese craftsmanship in beautiful two-tone sunburst.

The headstock shape and other details date this particular guitar to 1984-1985. From what I can tell, this appears to be a bit of a "transitional model" - Tokai changed the headstock on some of their 1984 TST-62 guitars for export/sale in the US. That gives this guitar the spec of Tokai's renowned TST-62 "Goldstar Sound" model with the F-shaped Tokai logo and the modified headstock.

The neck is a bit fuller than the "Modern C" neck without being chunky, and has great feel up and down the neck with just a hint of flame in the maple back. Plenty of life left in the frets. Vibrato is excellent, and the bar has a bit more substantial feel than a lot of the thin/wimpy bars that come on modern Strats.

For more information, check out: http://tokairegistry.com/

Cosmetically the guitar has it's share of nicks and dings, but nothing that affects playability. The only other things to note are some expected corrosion on the saddles and that there is a tiny bit of material chipped off the corner of the nut on the low-E side - I've never had a problem with the string popping out or going out of tune despite my heavy-handedness, but I wanted to bring it up so there are no surprises.

Now on eBay, ending Sunday - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130505632020&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT - But will end early for $425 plus shipping.

Tokai was building fantastic copies in the 80s. My beloved red parts-caster is built around a Tokai that I bought new in '84, and have played consistently since then. If you are interested in a Strat style guitar, I highly recommend you check out this one. And I think $475 is what they cost new, so that's a great deal.

That looks like the guitar Paul Johnson was playing in the '80s. In an '85 interview in Guitar Player magazine, he's shown with a guitar almost exactly like this (though his had a maple fretboard, not rosewood).

Good luck with selling it!
