Bit of a surprise to visit Harmony Central and be greeted by this video. Dick Dale tells his story, i'm sure you've all heard it before but at least this time in widescreen HD. It's a good one!

Always fun to hear Dick's (sensationalized?) recollection. Thanks for posting this newest/latest video of it! —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation |

The late great Elmer Keith wrote an autobiography he titled, "Hell, I Was There." That would have made a perfect title for Dick Dales's own autobiography. He may very well be a legend in his own mind, but he really is a legend and more. He was there, and what he didn't do himself or first, he was part of. The man is unique and music, even pop culture, wouldn't be the same without him. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

To be sure! (Realizing my initial post may be open for mis-interpretation... I personally am not trying to call Dick a liar - I don't know, I wasn't there. I do understand there are many bits of surf music history forgotten, lost, tweaked, assumed, whatever... (that's true of any/all history.) Dick is a great personality, a surf music legend, he tells a great story of his life, and clearly a huge part of what we all love.) —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation Last edited: Mar 23, 2011 11:14:54 |

Saw him play recently in Vancouver on his acoustic guitar. Great guy, great show. Now I need to see him playing the Strat. I think Dick Dale has worked really hard for everything that he has. He's Mr. Work Ethic. |

Among Dicks friends, you'll often hear the phrase, "That's how DICK would tell it"-and it's always said with a chuckle. One night in his dressing room, Dick was telling how he "helped" the artist Wyland paint the first "Whaling Wall" at the Hotel Laguna. Wyand-who was visiting, said, "Dick, that's how you would tell it" and recounted that in fact, every morning when they finished surfing, they would go to the hotel and apply coats of whitewash to provide a "canvas" for the painting. so it wasn't a lie-maybe just a LITTLE stretch. The man is unique and irreplaceable. The world without Dick Dale in it will be a lot less fun! |
