Hey, don't know if it's just me, but I'm seeing comments for PotD and Polls show up in what looks to be that Lucida Grande font! Could be that there isn't a default font defined so it's whatever the local browser wants to show... anywho, looks kinda nice from here.

Greetings,

Well done on the new site but I'm having a problem with the RSS feeds. I was using it for the old forum and would get new posts as they arrived, but now I only get a few. I seem to get 10 posts around midnight, and maybe 10 around lunch time. I'm pretty sure there have been more than 120 posts in the last week. My other RSS feeds seem normal.

I have updated to the new links. If I delete my feed in Outlook, and re-add it, I get 10 posts.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for your site and efforts,
RK

RK, I did a quick glance at the settings and currently the feed only goes back to the last 10 posts. And on top of that, the feed is cached and only updated once an hour.

Those settings are probably fine for the news stories but probably too conservative for forum posts.

I'll look into tweaking them. Thanks for the report.

RK: give me a few days and I'll adjust the forums RSS settings. Here is the ticket for that issue.

RK: I adjusted the forums RSS feed settings as follows:

  • TTL (time to live) is now 1 hour instead of 7
  • Retrieve the last 30 posts instead of 10
  • Feed is cached for 15 minutes

So now, every hour your RSS client can go retrieve the last 30 posts, instead of getting the last 10 posts every 7 hours.

It might take a few hours for the cache to clear. I expect by tomorrow morning it should be working better. Let me know. Hopefully these settings will be more useful.

I checked it out in Google reader, it looks pretty good there.

Indeed, it seems back to normal.

Thanks,

Just my opinion/preference: I
actually like the "dumb" algorithm. Email subscribers
as soon as the thread is posted in. I don't really
like the daily digest email, and I don't necessarily
want to visit the thread. That keeps me looking for
just stuff I'm not subscribed to already. But again
that's just my personal preference and my habits of
using the site. Please do whatever you think is best
for the site.

Ryan, I put it back to the original behavior since there were no overwhelming opinions in the poll. You should get an email every time someone posts to a topic you are subscribed to now.

Awesome! Thanks Brian!

Speaking of, is there a way to subscribe to every thread you've posted in, like how it was in the old site?

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Not yet, but it is on the to-do list. I didn't even know about that feature. But apparently you and Ryan used it!

Glad to know it's on the to-do list - thanks, Brian!

So, along those lines. Should there be a separate option to automatically favorite all threads you start or reply to?

Ok, we now have auto-favorite and auto-subscribe options! You'll find them in your profile.
