Yours thought. Just limited to a practice amp? Gig worthy?

Mostly a blues amp but definitely gigable. Bare bones, no verb and if I remember correctly no tone controls and a 10" speaker. Sort of a stripped Blues Jr. If I could find one at a good price I'd buy it but there are not that many out there, most get the Blues Jr.

Personally.. I would advise against an amp with out any type of tone control. I had an Ampeg with only a tone knob.. it was useless. I feel you really need an EQ onboard. I have yet to play an amp that I have liked with out EQ.

The Pro Junior is bluesey sounding.. a boring amp if you ask me, no life to it.

I had one and liked the tone, but not for surf. Even for rehearsal, it broke up way way too soon and was overdriving during our basement "pads on the drum kit" writing sessions.

Granted, I'm playing a Gretsch with TV FilterTrons, which are likely a bit hotter than most of the Fender-ish singles in surfdom, but still...

I'd agree with Bamboozer - Add a couple bucks to it and grab a Blues Junior w/ the cream circuit board so the Reverb doesn't hum like crazy.

I have one which i bought before i had access to all this fine SG101 advice. Do i regret buying one? no, they have a couple of advantages like they are only 20lbs weight and very loud. Fair amount of clean headroom before the crunch cuts in at around 5 volume control (11 maximum) but if you have a heavy handed drummer it isn't enough even in practice, that's why some guitarists run two pro jr together. I can confirm the drummer will get pissed off if you pop the amp on a stool and point it at him! It's a little boxy honky sounding but mic'd up in the studio it's possible it could produce a big sound...that is if the hum and buzz doesn't spoil thr recording. Some come factory fitted with hum and buzz, some not so much, from what i read on other forums the older models are better in this respect. I bought a mod-kit from ebay which has given a better overall sound and more headroom but it didn't stop the buzzing.

I love the Pro Jrs, just not for Surf. Rockin' Roadhouse Blues...absolutely!

I ran mine through a Fender Showman cab (JBL speaker) utilizing a Boss FRV-1 and the results were less than impressive imo.

As somebody else stated, 2 PJs in tandem is a very sool rig for other genres though.

I'm a big fan of the Pro JR. But I play softly enough that the overdrive isn't an issue. I love the two knob setup (volume & tone). nice & simple! plus, so very easy to carry.
BUT you really have to mic it if you want to be heard over. . . anything, really.
