Dear Lava Loungers,
Would like to thank you for 13 lovely years. We're hoping you'll share one last potent tropical cocktail with us before we close our rather singed door at the end of February.
For you Blue Hawaiians fans, they will be performing a final show on Feb 24th.
Over the next two months we will be having many of our all time favorite bands back, so please come visit us and say "aloha".
You will be amongst the privileged few to hear the very latest on all news regarding the new lounge, and be invited down for an advanced preview. Very exciting indeed!
bunch of non surf dates listed------------------------ then one good one:
1/17 the Austin James Band the Creepy Creeps
Mahalo so very much! We loved having you. Just time to reinvent...and return to my original vision for this tiny little space, a sharp lounge!

I'd like to see some discussion on this here.
But oddly enough, on cowabunga where its been dead the past few months. It's sparked a new thread of discussion. As well as the what was bad and good for surf in 2006 threads.

Try to get some footage of Michelle dancing on the bar...
Here is the start of the thread on Cowabunga.
Also, there has been some discussion the the SG101 compilation there.

The Lava Lounge was a great bar and intimate venue to see bands. Playing there with the Volcanics and the Infrareds in 2002 was certainly one of the most memorable highlights of our performance history.

HA! I remember Jim Copeland getting pissed at her the time the 'Verb came down to play. Didn't she kick a drink over on him? Jeff?

I was sitting next to him and his wife when that happened. Pretty rowdy for a surf show.

I heard about that, but never any stories straight from the horse's mouth. Did that happen to you too?

Tikitena, First of all I was not real pissed. The thing that did annoy me was that I sent posters in advance (I am usually late on this stuff but I had my act together on it that time) and they never posted them. That kind of limits our ability to draw folks outside our circle of surf no???
For me, when a band comes from out of town we give them most or all of the door. I always lose money... printing posters and hand flyers takes a chunk out of the profits. Sometimes I buy drinks for bands, because I feel bad that there is no comp drinks from the venue I book.
I kinda cracked up when the door guy at the Lava said "well two people came to see you" here is your cut. It was soooo teeeeny I almost just said don't bother.
But then again that is Hollywood. All these great players want a gig, clubs can treat them like they want too. I saw Herb Ellis at a club, half the tables filled, Greorge Benson was there just to watch. Herb said "anywhere else on the planet this place would be packed, but here in LA there are so many great musicians you can't draw a crowd"
On the plus side I got to meet Tikitena! And stayed at the hotel where Janis died, got up the next morning and played guitar by the pool where 6 or 7 young female German tourists were sunbathing the next morning (uh... I was at the pool first), that day we did the tourist thing. It was a BLAST!

WOW........
I think I do remember hearing about this now. Those "two" must have been Jeff and myself because I know we said we were there to see you!!! Jerks.
Well, I like the venue, but the drinks are over priced. We hit up the Tiki Ti before hand. ;)
I'm sorry to hear it was that bad, especially with all the work you put into it.

Ha, I was in a good mood that night, and it didn't really bug me, but the guy who gave me the news made it real dramatic...
It was a cool place, Too bad they didn't have a better location. With parking! you would think a club like that would be packed all the time in Hollywood.
Thanks for spending your hard earned dollars on the NEptunes! Hope to see you again soon!

Did anybody on sg101 go to the Blue Hawiians last show at the Lava Lounge. my buddy Jon Paul went, and he said it was crazy packed. and they played almost 3 hours. mostly on the Loungy/surfy side , and not too psyched out like lately. I would have liked to have seen that. But SP's and GO's were way to enticing to miss.
