A good friend of mine laments back to "the day" when he played surf on his Gemtone guitar through his Beltone amp. He is not much of a computer guy so I tracked him down a Beltone ( which he is running one of my old strats through). I am having no luck in verifying that this guitar really existed . It vaugely looks like a tobacco sunburst strat. It had a huge chrome faceplate on it and had 3 pickups. It came in a 1 or 2 pickup variety as well.
I found 1 ( count em 1 picture of what might have been a Gemtone) on the net. I am beggining to think that this is an impossible quest......lol ACcording to my buddy, this is a great SURF combo .

So, after all that background the question is. "Has anyone ever seen one" Question Question

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

How about this?

Fritzcat,

Many thanks for the info. The links are awesome! The more information the better. AT least now I know that it actually exists! I thought Teiscos were hard to find ( in Canada anyway) this ones gonna be a hoot. I am going to gather all the info I can about it and file it in my MIJ 60's guitar file.
IM going to show my buddy the linkl so he can drool...................lol
Cheers!
BTW, its snowing here today and we are expecting 5-10cm of snow. I am compenmsating by listening to the SG101 Podcasts...............

Like your links mention, yonder Gemtone was likely made by Kawai, and one of the big house brands that used a lot of Kawai stuff in the States was Kent. Maybe try looking up that brand name whilst trolling Ebay and such--you might find something really close, if not exactly like it.

Hey I was looking online for info about gemstone guitars. My grandfather gave me one with an amp and a microphone. Is this rare?

I have a gemtone handed down to me from my grandfather. I called him today actually and he said that he bought it in Fredericton < New Brunswick from one of the diamond trio (???) He bought it in 61 and is going to try to see if he could dig up the paper work. He said that the guy he bought it from is a a friend and he was going to see if he could find out the back round info for me.

Hey Jdango! I'm from Fredericton and I have a gemtone too! I want to know more about it. Strange... I've been googling all over for some info about it and found this post. http://imgur.com/yGvEVUX,rRhaCPv#0 http://imgur.com/OuSm1rU There's a couple of pics of mine. My gemtone is my main guitar even though it will never intonate. It's an ugly duckling that howls with feedback! The headstock simply says "STEEL REINFORCED NECK" and "GEMTONE" ... that's all thats written on it. Also, I play it lefty if you've noticed that its upside down.

Let me know if you hear more about Gemtones! I'm curious.
