Hey Group,

Any thoughts on D'Addario strings? Is there a certain gauge you like for surf?

Merry Christmas

Although I don't use those myself, you'll probably find all your questions answered here:

Moved to the Gear forum.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

i use them but i'm no expert. they do seem to last forever. i use 11's which are fine for my weak girl fingers. Smile

I now use a D'Addario 11-49 set on my DiPinto Galaxie IV. They sound great and do last longer than other makes (GHS, Fender).

I have 10's (for my weak man hands Laughing ) on my original Dano and they sound very nice. I don't think the the extra $$$ are entirely worth it though. I usually bounce between the D'Addario XL, GHS Boomers, and Ernie Balls depending on my mood and the guitar.

Coated strings are coated strings. Some are deader sounding than others. Some you'll like, some you won't. The only way to tell which is for you and your guitar is to try them. They are expensive, and the wound ones last longer. The plain ones don't.

Here's a strategy if you are concerned about cost. If you are using 10s, just wait until guitar center or someplace like that runs a sale on a 10 pack where the unit price drops well under $3.00. You can get Daddario (with a daddario pint glass!) or GHS like that, and sometimes even Ernie Ball. If you are using heavier roundwounds, try something like Webstrings, or another reputable online unbranded string source. Change them as often as you want for less cash than you would spend on a comparable length of play time with coated strings.

Flat wounds? Never really cheap. Sometimes there's an online coupon for a discount on strings and drum sticks. I once scored Daddaria flatwound chromes for $3.50 a set that way. Bought 12 sets. Not the greatest string ever, but great quality for what I paid.

I have a set of D'addario 11-49 on my Hallmark custom 60 and love them...I'm gonna put some 12-52 flats on my jag this week

Thank you so much for mentioning Webstrings.com. We go through a hellofa lot of strings, not only due to breakage, but also due to being particular about keeping bright sounding strings on our guitars. If these sound decent, this price is amazing. Does anyone have anything to say about the overall tone of these strings? I mean, come on, they have sets with a wound 3rd, which I have found hard to come by.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

I also use D'Addario 11's on my Dipinto Galaxie. Good strings, have used them for 15+ years.
