I'll admit it, I'm a total sucker for really happy surf songs--the kind with usually no umph or bite to them whatsoever, but are just tons of giddy fun.
For example, these are some favorites:
The Lively Ones - Rik a Tik (in my opinion, the champion of them all)
The Sentinals - Sunset Beach, Twilighter
The Wet Tones - Tropicana
Eddie & The Showmen - Break Time
The Woodies - Surf'n With Bernie
Dick Dale - Taco Wagon
The Surf Coasters - Sea Knows, Summer is Nearly Here, Beach Picnic, Vamos Por Ahi, Jellyfish (my runner-up)
Anyone got any others to add to the list? I wanna track down as many of these as I can.

Mr. Rebel - Eddie and the Showmen
Travellin' - David Marks and the Marksmen
Sukiyaki - any version
Just off the top of my head for now. All the Pilgrims love the happy surf, which is sort of ironic... guilty pleasure .

I think Perfidia is pretty happy-sounding.

Ted that's funny and I'm sure you know this but Sukiayki's lyrics are supposedly rather depressing.

Gung Ho For Don Ho by Slacktone makes me happy just thinkin' about it. I can always picture driving along a tropical coast as uncrowded glassy walls break in abundance when I hear that tune.

I like Perfidia, too, as well as the Ventures version of Blue Moon, Telstar, Bongo Rock and Teen Beat.

'Flights of Fancy' by the Ventures to me is a really goofy, yet awesome song. The fuzz guitar with congo's makes it sound like its 'The Partridge Family' or 'The Brady Bunch' trying to be psychadelic.

"Tradewinds" by the Space Cossacks seems slightly happy. Very smooth relaxing tune.

I know, I almost said "except the original Kyu Sakamoto". I think the original title in Japanese is something like "I cry even though the sun is shining". Leave it to American marketing (racism) to change the name...

Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt
Similau - The Surfaris
Ted,
not trying to ruffle Feathers here,
But Simulau... happy????
Great song yes. But Happy thats a new one on me.
to me its more of a spooky or earie sounding song.
and then when I heard that it was a folk song about the Spirts that lived in the sugar cane fields (in Cuba I beleive its supposed to be).
That just cemented it as a spooky song for me.
But hey it does make me happy to hear it.
