Hi all, guys¡I recently found in a thrift store a BOSS OD-3.How I had a very good price and I still did not have any overdrive pedal, then decided to buy.
The reason for my query is to see if anyone has used it to play "surf " And if you think if this function may be useful to play this kind of music.
I have read that some people sometimes use an Ibanez TubeScreamer to play "surfing. "
Could anyone explain to me how and often used this kind of surf music pedals? How are accustomed to have them adjusted? Do you think that could use the BOSS OD3 as a kind of Ibanez TubeScreamer? What do you think or know of this pedal? I mean the kind of sound you have (if it is a pedal with high or low presence of middle, treble, bass, etc ...), quality, so much .... I would help to better understand your opinions on this pedal and power get the best possible performance. As if that helps you with the guitars I play are an Eastwood Saturn 63 (modified GFS soapbar P90 alnico V pickups) Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster 50 (maple neck and alnico II pickups) Squier Jagmaster (practically transformed into a "Jaguar" with Fender Jaguar 62 pickups, pickguard, plates and slide switches Fender Jaguar), Squier Standard Stratocaster (rosewood fretboard and alnico V pickups). My amp is a Peavey Classic 30 and I have it set to treble controls 7, mids at 5.5, bass to 3 ...Classic 30 controls ranging from 1 to 12
(I accept suggestions and tips to "surf" settings in the Classic 30). I usually play with the volume control on my guitar down to 6/7/8 (depending on each guitar). While saving money to buy a BOSS FRV-1 used a combination of two delay pedals (Ibanez DE7 and a Danelectro PB & J) with the reverb of amp.I hope your answers, opinions and advice I sure will be of great help¡Greetings from Spain¡
Mario.

Honestly, I do not know. I am a tubescreamer user and use it during the entirity of our set. However, I have been looking at these boss overdrive pedals. I find them quite often used and my rhythm player is in dire need of an overdrive. I just wonder if the sound is transparent like a tube screamer or if it is completely colored like most of the boss distortion pedals.

Looking at and watching one video on youtube, the OD-3 seems to function similarly to a tubescreamer.
Whenever I needed a little something more, during my surf days, I stomped on the tubescreamer. Initially I kept the gain on 0 just to bump my volume. As time went on I started to use more and more gain.
And as a tip, don't pay attention to your EQ settings or to where the knobs are at on your pedal, just dial in to where you want the sound. If you have the same type of pedal(even if it is a genric brand) of the genre/artist you want to sound like it should be very little problem to get that sound, and if you aren't finding that sound it is problem somewhere in your approach.

I have one. It's a great overdrive, smooth not chainsawlike. Adjust it to get the tone you want and use a reverb pedal if you have one. I got a Digitech Hardwire RV pedal and it has a lot of settings and tones - I like it but a real tube reverb unit would be cool.
